Cam Cover Gaskets

You can get a tube of it from FPC Groton, keep it out of the oil channels or they will plug and you'll loose the cam follower and start getting that sweet thunk from the valvetrain.

You have to take the timing set off the top end, which in your case includes the tensioner which you then have to compress to get back on. You'll have to take the cams out, make sure you get them back in correctly, so you can clean the mating surface. Might as well do a timing belt while you're in there.

You may want to make the hold down tools for the cam cover, I welded some threaded rod to a couple of spark plugs and ran them through a couple of 3/4" square tubing. That way you can get everything compressed together and tighten the cam cover bolts in the recommended sequence.

I like to clean all the surfaces with acetone just prior to applying the liquid gasket, and I use a foam paintbrush for more control. I apply a little more gasket material to the outside edges of the cam cover where a little squirting out the side won't do any harm, but go very carefully on the center section since extra gasket here can plug the oil channels.

Probably needs a rear seal behind the CMP ,a turbo return o-ring and PCV service. As suggested. Give Chilled man your hard earned money and let him have a peek, I highly doubt it's a fault of the anbolic sealer.

Valve cover gasket

I know there is no cam gasket, but in the picture it looks as if there might be one that should not be there. Am i wrong? Ive had plenty of shops call and ask me if they can use hight heat silicone I say dont bother for the 30$ its costs for a tube that could seal up 3 or more engines why not!

seriously looks like someone stuffed a gasket in there.

Taking the Cams out isn't that big a deal, once you remove the Cam cover they cust lift right out, mark the position, the best way is to set the timing marks on the cam cover and the crank like you're going to do a timing belt, then take the timing belt off to release the tension on the cams, remove the cover, remove the cams ( you did mark which was intake and which was exhaust), clean it all up.

Now be sure to replace the spark plug tunnel O-rings, and might as well spring for new cam seals while you're in there.

Not a huge job, you don't even have to take the intake or exhaust off.
