True Swede
Hi guysPicked up a XC grille a while back for my S70 T5. The "black" eggcrate part is not so black anymore and I'm planning on respraying it, just not sure if there is a particular type of spray paint you guys use for this job. I sprayed my OEM grill with plastidip but think that the surface it created would be a little too rough on the XC. Looking more to get it back to it's original shade, sort of a deep matt black with a smooth surface I guess. Thanks,TS
T5power
just use plasti-dip, easiest to use.

True Swede
When using plastidp, how many coats did you spray? Was the result as "smooth" as before the spray?

Was the result as "smooth" as before the spray?before you spray, sand down a bunch of the grille, so it's got a good sticking point to it. i put about 4 coats on mine and it's lasted me about 3 years. --Aaron--
When using plastidp, how many coats did you spray? Was the result as "smooth" as before the spray?I chose not to scuff up the inner portion of the grill which is all I painted leaving the chrome outer edge. I hit mine w/ 3 coats IIRC. Plasti Dip is extremely easy to apply and drys to a very nice flat black finish.

True Swede
Well. I didn't get very far.. That slash is a real b!tch to get off. Obviously tried to push the pins from the back, even soaked them in DW-40. No good.. When I tried to pry one of the rings around the pins I ended up breaking off that pin. I had no problem getting the slash off my OEM grill when I did that one. What to try next??
True Swede
Should of course be WD-40
--Aaron--
To remove those clips on the slash posts I just used a small flathead and pryed gently and evenly, going around the post as I did it....might try that. :)

Guess I'll have to be more gentle then, don't want to break more of them posts. How did you pry around the two in the center. No room to get to them ? No room to get to them ?If you break more posts a little clear super glue will do the trick. The ones in the center I only pryed back and forth from the top edge and bottom. sconeman
On my 850, I set my grill up on two stools so that the slash was in-between them (with the front of the grill facing down). Then take a t25 torx or similar driver and a hammer. Tap gently on the posts with the torx and the hammer. Do a little on each post and keep alternating. This should drive the slash down gradually. good luck. PS 5 coats of plastidip did it for me.
True Swede
Three broken posts later it's finally off . Guess glue it is..Saw a read up of a guy who used 3M emblem mounting tape which worked really well too. Too late to start spraying it now, so it will have to wait until tomorrow. Thanks for the replies..
