Then get a good lawyer and do a class action lawsuit.

Who's suing who?

compliance is the responsibility of the OEM which is verified by a sanctioning body. End user has nothing to do with it.

I there has been some miscommunication here (probably on my end). I started down this road just pointing out that sometimes recalls are done due to regulations and compliance issues. This is not to say that your statement about the auto companies being for profit is wrong, because it isn't. I was merely adding to it.

these thing will FAIL again. volvo needs to redesign it. it is inevitable. with the new design being available now, it just proves that volvo wants us to die! :D j/k

It's not Volvo's design, it's Magnetti Marelli. Sounds like you just need to find a new dealer. And this new design hasn't been tested yet it may be just as bad as what we have now, but I do know Volvo has knowledge of it.

my fix was the xemodex etm since my car was out of warranty. they don't want to replace it anyways. my moms car 00xc still has 1.5years left on it and they chose to "clean" it. problem is still there, yet volvo refuses to replace it since the proper code has not been set. total b/s since the xemodex unit will restore all driveability back to 99+ cars. i personally can attest to that!

But it still has not been proven....

What happened to the 10year/200k mile warranty on the ETM's?

Still in effect.

proving the ETM works everyday i drive my v70xc, matter of fact just came home from a 60 mile roundtrip to new jersey and had me some fine 16oz of usda prime rib with plenty of "marbling" yum! :P

My point is the first ETM's didn't fail for a couple of years. We have no idea how reliable this new technology is. I'm all for it, but it's still very new. Enjoy your steak and keep us posted with your new technology. Oh yeah, find a new dealer, it sounds like you got a bunch of lazy hacks making me look bad.

danny, from what i have seen. all the cleaning does is clean out my pockets of $$ and time. i don't see how the idle and surgings at 2500-3000 rpms could be from gunk. that think is sooo loaded with tension a little gunk can't slow it down that much. i think its more in line with the "new" software.

the dealers suck for the most part, my dealer is the same. they change parts, they need codes to know what is wrong. no more fix it from experience. :)

Ah true. But technically speaking, Volvo was owned by Ford at the time...so techincally Ford had something to do with it :P

Ford bought Volvo on Jan. 28 1999. Model Year 1999 cars had already hit the showrooms with ETM's so technically it was all Volvo's idea ;)
