BtownVolvo
Ford bought Volvo on Jan. 28 1999. Model Year 1999 cars had already hit the showrooms with ETM's so technically it was all Volvo's idea Yea well...my e-penis is bigger!!

decker
My point is the first ETM's didn't fail for a couple of years. We have no idea how reliable this new technology is. I'm all for it, but it's still very new. Enjoy your steak and keep us posted with your new technology. Oh yeah, find a new dealer, it sounds like you got a bunch of lazy hacks making me look bad. yeah... it take's a little while for this stuff to wear out... but it will... and they do.FAILwhat's to wear out in the XeMODeX unit... the digital angle sensor doesn't "contact"... hell... neither do the '04 & up units on Volvo's right? FAIL

FAIL02+ cars (except densos, 03+) use an electric throttle actuator. It uses a small stepper motor to adjust the throttle angle. And no one knows what could fail on the new contactless ETM's, only time will tell.
decker
And no one knows what could fail on the new contactless ETM's, only time will tell.at least it won't be those cheesy-ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD mylar strips...
dmelviØØ7
at least it won't be those cheesy-ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD mylar strips... True, but those are the only problems with those ETM's.
bdimag
are or aren't?and whats up with the 02+ etms?
decker
True, but those are the only problems with those ETM's.too bad it's not a simple $100 or so d-i-y fix though... huh? imagine being "joe the customer" and getting a bill for $400+ to clean your ETM's toilet paper after the it dies at an intersection with your wife and kids in the car and then having to get it towed to the dealership... only to find out later that it'll probably happen again because Volvo and the original manufacturer of the part failed to actually FIX the dam'n problem with a new or better design. i think THAT is the major point of contention.but yeah... other than that... theyyyyyyyyyyy're flippin' GREAT!!! (In all fairness... Chris at XeMODeX said the unit itself is a really good piece of hardware)
yangotang
To the OP:You should research the class action against the Ford Pinto. (remember this one)?In the class action, the supreme court ruled that using $$$ to justify recalls is legal.
