Curbweight

Anyone know what the curb weight of the cool Volvo's is? Things like the 850, 242, C70, etc.

I'd especially like to know body weight excluding drive-train.

I'm shopping for a car to convert to electric, was thinking a bettle, but should at least consider the Volvo I'd be giving up.

What exactly is your criteria that the car needs for converting to electric?

And moar info on this conversion process please!

You can also find most curb weights on cars.com under research.

A little while back there was someone who posted up something about an 850 that had been converted to an electric car.

Anyone remember what I'm talking about? Got some links to share?

it was a craigslist link probably dead no info really

i would find a car that has the option for no power steering ie 240 because i can imagine converting to electric steering might be a bitch. But then if i had no power steering i would sure as hell find something light like a bettle or crx or civic

Couldn't you run the PS pump off the electric motor?

But I guess running without power steering is the most energy efficient way.

yes but like i said IMO it would be a bitch, i dont even think there are specs out for the pressure the pump putts out. if you could find the pressure specs it would not be as hard. Im sure there are conversion kits out there to convert from mechanical to electric but probably none for the volvo so you would have to find something close to it.

You could always use an electric power steering pump out of a car that came with one from the factory. Toyota MR2 comes to mind though there are others. Would be a big drain on the batteries though.

Yep.

Guy who does these conversions lives here in Houston. I think the one for sale on here was asking $14,000.

Curb weight is 4300 lbs (this vehicle with the electric conversion)

Yeah, there are obvious choices other than a Volvo for sure.

One I really want to look into would be this:

Since the performance of any electric car doesn't compare to that of a ICE car, there should at least be a cool factor to the vehicle!

Thanks for the info!
