I hate haters
Hey guys what's a good source for a manual swap parts in the Seattle area? Would 86k miles on the M56 be considered low medium or high mileage? Thanks
Tightmopedman9
I would say thats decently low. I got mine with a bit more than 95k miles and a half gallon of rusty water inside it haha. I cracked the case and got it all cleaned and it shifts smoother than butter now :)

Boost3237
Out of a Turbo or NA car?The only difference where it comes from would be gear ratios. Either will work, though chances a m56 out of a t5m would be an m56H. I had a m56L out of a '93 NA and it lasted about a yr... the synchros were bad in it to begin with plus it had lots of miles on it. So this rebuild I did on it doesn't seem to be working, so I'm in the market for a new m56 :)
mune237
"generally" speaking, a NA tranny will have less abuse on it than one out of a turbo car.And didn't Canada get manuals? 2 hour drive from Seattle.

Is there a way to find out from the VIN# whtat it is?There should be a tag on the tranny that will say m56H if that's what it is, but is the vin# the car vin that it came out of? If its the car vin give ur volvo dealer a call and they can tell you the year, if its the vin off the tranny chances are it has the tag that will say what tranny it is. Late 95 and up are m56h. My first tranny was out of a 95(no idea of production month) and it was an m56L but I got it swapped and 3rd gear syncro was gone. My current tranny is from a 96 and is a m56h and is solid as a rock and smooth as hell, well for now
I hate haters
Thanks, the VIN is for the car, I plugged it into CARFAX website and it said that it is a 96. This matches what the guy was saying about tranny being from a 96. From some info that I found on this site apparently the 96 modles came with an M56H installed. Would VADIS have any data in this regard? There should be a tag on the tranny that will say m56H if that's what it is, but is the vin# the car vin that it came out of? mdlimy
What other info do you need. If that's the original tranny out of that car then your set! Vadis won't tell u anything regarding the vin on the tranny or anything. It does have procedure for installation and removal of tranny, pedals, shifter etc... I hate haters
You are right, VADIS doesn't seem to have it. It has nice diagrams with part #s though. Anyway, I am gonna go for it. I am trying to get five people together for a group buy on Quaife LSD. I have two right now (including myself) need 3 more. If anyone is interested it's over here:http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.php?s...0&start=240What other info do you need. If that's the original tranny out of that car then your set! lookforjoe
You might ask for the hydraulics as well - the slave is external - so you can easily replace it later & the lines don't go bad - just buy a new clutch master.
