Walbro 255 Upgrade - Post Questions

Recommended Posts

the topic of the walbro 255 for the 850 turbo is a beaten-to-death topic, i know... i got the walbro 255 pump for my T-5R from Joe (member: JHEIII874T5M) whom im assuming is selling real deal Walbros as some of you have purchased from as well.. i have some questions since the install not less than a few hours ago.. first and foremost: to date how many of you have purchased from Joe, and how are your pumps all working; he's an awesome guy from what i can tell. Secondly, the stock bosch pump strainer/filter doesnt fit the new walbro as the circumference of the hole is too big. i went to AutoZone, Carquest, Advance Auto, Napa, and a few others and the only strainers they had that fit were the long tube-like ones. there were no strainers with the smaller stock size 'bladders' that fit the walbro. so i went with the longer one and i had to fold it almost in half to fit it through the pump opening. anyone do this or have that problem? is it alright that the pump strainer is probably sitting in the tank folded in half (since the well within the tank is walled and could only possibly fit the smaller bladdered strainer)? the walbro is also smaller in every way to the stock bosch, which i found strange since its suppose to pump more lph? the spring almost just pushes it through the bottom of the apparatus, and it seems the only thing really holding it in place is the tube up top connecting to the overall housing itself. maybe i havent driven my car in so long, but im not too sure i even notice a difference in power from any type of added juice? what are ya'lls thoughts? am i crazy or just annoying everyone? ANY type of feedback, please...

You arent going to feel any performance difference unless your old pump was failing somehow and not holding pressure. Joseph is a stand up guy and the pump you have while not an exact replacement can be used in the place of a stock pump.

right, it's shorter, so you need to position the old spring to make everything snug and get some fuel hose to make the distance since the new pump is shorter. and i used the old rubber sleeve to fit around the new pump. the walbro is also louder (whiney-er) than stock. and much cheaper.

my BIGGEST concern was the folded longer pump strainer... it's just not sitting well with me that its folded in the tank like that... so you guys say its ok? i mean, the car is driving alright and all, but who knows for how long or if it'll stay on with the added pressure from the fold. also, since the walbro is smaller, i had to move it higher up in the overall apparatus so the wires would reach the prongs on the walbro. since it is sitting higher up, the strainer isnt as low in the tank as the larger stock pump obviously was - so does this mean i probably dont have as many miles to empty as the computer tells me since its not sitting as low in the tank as stock?
