Hello everyone,

I bought this car last year and didn't do any tune up since. I am willing to change the oil myself and will need your help on this. I also don't know the tune up history on this car so I am open to any advices.

After I bought this car, I had to replace the radiator fan at the volvo service and they told me that i need to change 2 of the engine mounts, one is on passenger side, one is on the top. i think I can change the one on the top, but probably have someone to change the other one.

Other than this, they recommended to change the cam shaft (i may have written it wrong) that is around the timing belt, when I asked why that needed to be changed, he said that "it doesn't read good" but car runs ok to me.. is this something i should give attention?

They also recommended intake air cleaning... is this something i can do myself? I need your advice on this.

and the last thing is spark plugs.

Here are my questions regarding all this

- How many gallons of oil does this car take? (the manual calls 7.3 quarters and change every 7500 millage)

- What brand oil would you recommend?

- I used "Lucas synthetic oil stabilizer" on my previous car that had about the same millage. Would you recommend this stabilizer for this car?

- What is the torque for the oil filter?

- Do I need to know anything else than basic oil change procedure?

-Where would you recommend to buy volvo parts??

Thank you very much in advance.

Yes, it takes 7 quarts of oil. I recommend a good synthetic like Mobil 1.

The oil filter is a cartridge type Oil Filter Link. You can get one at your local auto parts store - Purolator makes one. You will need a special wrench Wrench Link to remove it (or use a small band wrench). Drop the lower cover to access the filter and drain plug. I don't remember what the torque for the oil filter cover is, but it's not much - the seal is made by the O-ring around the perimeter, so you just need enough torque to keep it from unscrewing. Don't overtighten it or you might break the plastic. You might want to get a new crush washer for the drain plug Crush Washer Link.

I get my parts mostly online from FCP Groton, IPD USA, and MySwedishParts.com. The rest I get at local auto parts stores, the dealer, or from recyclers.

The air cleaner is a simple drop-in paper type Air Filter Link. You can get one at your local auto parts store. Purolator makes one. Just undo some clips on the cover, pull out the old one, drop in the new one, and fasten the clips.

The spark plugs are more complicated to do. Here's a writeup: How to change spark plugs.

some more questions

- what type of oil should I get 5w30 or 10W/30 ?? according to the manual 10W/30 is good for temperature intervals -20 and 104F which looks appropriate for New Orleans..

- should I also use Lucas oil stabilizer when I change the oil? (118K)

thanks...

10W/30

I would use Auto-Rx instead.

Also, you need to change the timing belt @ 120,000 miles.

timing belt was changed at 114K.

Can I find Auto-Rx at autozone or do I have to order it online?

auto-rx is only available from auto-rx.com

vegasjetskier, where did that 120k interval come from? i have it listed as 105k for both the 2.8 and the 2.9.
