So, yup. It's a moose. Why, that I don't know, but it definitely is a moose. The XC90, V50 and S40 are all real. The EVOLVE S40 is NOT from Volvo, but Volvo co-operated w/EVOLVE on the project. The 90 is based on the V8 engine they're giving it next year (yes, Volvo is making a 315 hp V8 for the XC90). They mainly supered it, put on a big-jerk intercooler and custom exhaust et voila! 650 hp (est). Yeah, yeah. Estimated. Still, way the hell better than any Volvo (stock or heavily modded) so far. The other 2 are somewhat similar to each other. Yes, Doug, they are both modded in the engine bay. How would you explain a doubling of hp w/o some serious modding? Anyway, big turbos, intercoolers, exhaust, suspension, that sort of thing. No revolutionary tech, but effective all the same. If you guys still don't believe me, here you go. That should give you everything you need to know. Just click on 'Present' cars near the top. Let the drooling begin. My floor is already like a swamp.

Cheers,

Al B)

I am more with doug on this one. Evolve is a nice company if you want Wheels or a body kit. When it comes down to performance parts for the consumer they have none. All the modifications they show are not avalible. Evolve has a main interest in the SEMA show as does the volvo car corp. There s40 " LOOKS" awsome but there is no proven performance data out of the car. The car is totally wrong for a performance platform being the huge tires in the rear. I am by no means hating on evolve because they have some nice looking cars out but i think when it comes to a performance standpoint i am not yet impressed by anything performance parts they have released.

So, yup.  It's a moose.  Why, that I don't know, but it definitely is a moose.

They have a test for the agility of the XC90 in sweden where there is a giant fiberglass moose. They take the car towards it at a high rate of speed and then try an emergency lane change meneuver. My guess would be that's where the moose on the PUV came from.

What's with all the hating, doug?

I don't think it's hating, it's more that Evolve doesn't seem to be a serious business, and they're not a Performance industry like they seem to think they are. They do great looking bodykits; if they pitched themselves as a cosmetics vendor, I don't think anyone would say anything. However, they've done a host of performance mods -- almost none of which are available on the open market -- and they've done more than a few things that are either wildly impractical on a street car (fine, it's a show car), or just counterproductive. 11" rear rims on a FWD car? Fine, if you must -- but that camber looks horrible. They've gone to a lot of work and trouble for a show car, which is admirable, but as we've seen with their S60 cars, little of that will make it to the street. I mean, compare them to most of the other SEMA tuners/vendors; most every other company sells the parts they showcased.

To boil it down some -- they're ricey. High-class rice, but some of what they're doing is like throwing a "turbo" emblem on the back of a Ferrarri. If they threw in a high-hp motor, made the mods available, and then did up the car to make use of it, that would be one thing. That's not what they're doing.

To be honest (and I doubt I'm alone), I smell a rat. SOMEONE *cough*volvo*/cough* is pouring money into these folks, but it's like trying to build a town using wooden prop buildings. I'd love to eat crow on this one, because if there's one thing we need more of, it's Volvo tuners. I will admit they're getting better, but they've still got a long way to go.

possibility 2 is there's something under wraps between evolve and volvo that you don't know about. you always have to take the fact that there is always something you *don't* know when you judge companies and partnerships you know nothing about.
