jmc
After cleaning the MAF sensor, I still get the P1171 and P1181 codes. I have been told that I should erase the codes and go through several driving cycles to see if they disappear. If anyone has any experience in this area, please respond. The car has been examined by my mechanic and these codes are understood. I am considering first replacing the MAF sensor as a DIY first strike to make the light go away since a variety of solutions are indicated by these codes.1. Is it unlikely that replacing the MAF sensor will help if there are no rough driving symptoms ?2. If I do replace the MAF sensor, am I still required to get the dealer to deal with the software issue ? ie. the computer "sees" new hardwareThis is a 2001 non turbo 2.9 S80 with 100,700 miles, just replaced transmission. MrWinkey
Aside from a vacuum leak(lean) or high fuel pressure(rich) which I doubt on the 80 series I would say your fault probably lies within the MAF by the codes you listed assuming they are the only codes. As for software I don't think that year requires it but I'm not sure. If it does then the dealer must do it unless you know an indy with the Vita/Vidas cart??
