Volvo Virgin
So I'm ready to R&R the brakes on the S70. Calipers are still operating fine so I'm just looking at new rotors and pads all the way around. Of course there is all OEM with prices from DW Volvo that can't be beat, but wanted to look at aftermarket too or possibly mixing OEM with aftermarket. I know this has been discussed a zillion times so I started using the search feature to see what people have had success with....but I got dizzy! Alot of cross banter and opinions and not too much definitive info.So I'd like to know who has used what SUCCESSFULLY!! Successfully = longevity with good stopping and no squealing. I'm not interested in theories and what didn't work, just want success stories to point me in the right direction. I am considering slotted or cross-drilled rotors but am aware of the durability with some cross-drilled and tearing up pads with some slotted. I've used several aftermarket ceramic pads in the past and have always had an issue with squealing and the obvious rotor wear, tho stopping and dusting were improved. So I'm totally up in the air with regards to pads.I'd appreciate any good info.Rob
javadoc
If you're not going with a BBK, I'd say go with OEM.
Volvo Virgin
If you're not going with a BBK, I'd say go with OEM.That's definitely the tried and true. BBK is not in my realm right now with my energies in other places.
Cal3thousand
Got slotted way back in 2004 all 4 corners. Since then, I've replaced the front rotors with blanks after wearing the fronts out. I will go back to slotted this next time around. And the rear are still slotted with lots of depth left in the grooves. I've gone through one rear pad set since then too. I always liked my slotted rotors for looks and even pad wear and the supposed off gassing. As for pad, I have Mintex red box right now... no squeel and not too much dust. But, if you have the cash, go OE
crazykn
I'm having a terrible time with the red box Mintex with squealing... I don't know why but for me it just squeals too much. Surprisingly the brake pads aren't being eaten up and still got plenty of pad left. I only have 4K miles on them. If this was like my 850 before with the OEM pads and slotted rotors, i've eaten the OEM pads up in 6K miles... literally beyound minimum spec. Sucks to live in San Francisco with all the hills around me.
theneedforswede
i have the ate slotted rotors in the front with oem in the rear and am quite happy with it. i will be getting different pads than the pbr ceramics next time though because the ceramic squeals like a MFer. ive had this combo for about 10k and havent noticed any wear in the pads or rotors yet. the rotors are pretty affordable from tire rack
socal850tuner
slotted up front, OEM rotors in the back, OEM pads all around. Light squealing during aggressive braking. I also have SS lines. I love this setup so far.
MrTopher
love my hawk HPS pads. I'd go with either oem rotors or slotted. I'm going to need new fronts soon, I'll probably go with slotted and the HPS's again

Fishey
ATE PremiumOne Slotted RotorsAkebono Euro brake padsorHawk HPS Street brake pads The ATE rotors are cheap and easily the best deal on the market today. (Coated/Slotted/Quality Material) As far as brake pads are concerned Akebono pads are far superior to the factory pads (junk) and are quiet as a mouse and have low dust. Hawk HPS pads would be my choice because they are silent and offer low dust and better braking peformance compared to other street pad options. As I have mentioned before most people on this form are retarded. Just make sure you clean the Hubs, Brackets, Sliders, etc.. and use proper lube/DBQ and the pads will work great!-Your PalFishey
Fake-R
You cannot beat FCP's deal. Brembo OEM Style rotors, with ceramic pads. Just put them all on the 850, and love them!

Runamok
I'm running Hawk HPS front and rear on aftermarket rotors. I have no squeeling and no complaints other than the rotors seem to be getting crusty with rust quickly. That's my fault for buying cheap rotors though. Regardless of what you go with, follow the bedding procedure and don't over tighten the wheels. And don't let anybody else ever over tighten the wheels lol.
