'05 S60 Key Fob

rehab

Recommended Posts

So I went to the dealer this morning to see about getting my key fob replaced. Its pretty loose and I only have one.

The estimated the cost to get a new key fob and program it to be 475.00! Does this sound correct? That seems ridiculous!

I inquired about just getting a valet key in case of an emergency and that was to cost 165.00...I felt like I was getting punked.

My questions for the forum are:

Has anyone purchased on off the web and had it re-programmed?

Has anyone had a dealer do it?

Has anyone ordered it directly from Volvo?

Any information would be greatly appreciated, thanks and take care.

I doubt you'll find them on ebay and I don't think they can be reprogrammed.

But just for a little perspective, I had a key made and it cost between 80-100, and if I want a fob its around 240. Keep in mind though I have an 01 and they don't have switchblade keys so I would imagine that those cost more. Call around and see what the other dealers charge. Otherwise try and just get a replacement case.

I have 2001 s60. When I bought the car it came without the alarm key chain (I'm not sure if we are talking about the same thing).

Anyway, I bought the replacement key chains from eBay to get them reprogrammed. On eBay seller claimed that they were reprogrammable, but it turned out to be FALSE.

Dealer was not able to reprogram the eBay alarm (key-less entry) switches, so I had to get one for $350.00 I think. That was in 2006.

So, I would not recommend to by anything online. And the dealer prices seem to be right.

New-er volvo key fogs + programing is bs in my opinion. My local dealer quoted 350 for my s70, remind you this was for ONE remote. I could install an after market alarm system and get 2 for cheaper than a replacement fog.

Just my .02

used ones cannot be reprogrammed. however, if you have one that works and is just "loose", you can buy a used one and take the guts out of your old one and put it back into a new one. i bought a replacement key for my fob from the dealer and i think it was around $65 + programming.
