Iloveboost
I love build threads but hate to see what i cant afford to do!! Good luck with it man!!
Karl Buchka
Don't bother with a GT28. It's too small. Why are you getting new pistons if all you want is 450hp?
PsychoWagon
I don't feel comfortable reusing wrist pins, and you can't buy them seperately through volvo, they come witht he piston as a kit. Plus, I may have to bore out the cylinders which would mean I would need oversized pistons.I love build threads but hate to see what i cant afford to do!! Good luck with it man!!Thanks! And you could afford it if you sold the honda edit: GARRETT T3/T4 60 TRIM or 20G? You guys running the 20G, was it hard to get decent hp?
bum2kev
I would go with the GT3076. Also the last few people that ran a GT35 with 750cc injectors on RICA tuned either parted out the build or sold the ECU and went with a stand alone/Turbo tuner. they could never get it to run correct.. PsychoWagon
just not sure how tuning with turbo tuner would go...3076 ok with rica?Good question for those of you who did a build...Is it necessary to balance the shortblock? The question is, if you know the crank is good, and the conrods come pre-balanced to the .01 gram, same with pistons, what's the point in balancing it, any slight vibration will be picked up by the harmonic balancer no?Next question, are ARP studs for the head necessary? Whats the pros/cons between ARP studs and oem bolts?
maciekb2002
micro polishing crank and balancing pistons with rods is very recommended. And it will not cost you more then $150 .So do it . Any questions send me pm I went thru that hell
PsychoWagon
Pmed.More pics coming tomorrow, removed the pistons and seperating halves tomorrow night (forgot my torx 30 @ work for the pump... grr..)edit: Con rods bearings were just starting to score slightly, but no play in the wrist pin or con rods/crank. checked with a dial, not bad for a 300 000km engine :D
Zaitz
I was thinking of turbo-tuner for the ecm, but a couple of people have had good success with RICA, so i'll give them a shot first, debating between gt28 or gt35, but the gt28 would spool a bit quicker... still debating. Going to run 750cc injectors with high flow pump obviously.Who has had good success with Rica?! Their custom tunes are 100% worthless.

PsychoWagon
maciekb2002 seems to like his rica tune? I just don't know how in depth you would have to go with turbotuner, and how long it would take
ryan850-t5
Check out the turbo tuner forum. I have talked to CJ about it and it seems like it has a lot of potential. From what i gathered the tuning is not too difficult where the average couldnt figure it out with a little time. There are also a couple cool new features I have heard about coming out in the future. PsychoWagon
I'll have to talk to them. Thanks for the input.update: Pics coming tomorrow (I know, sorry, sisters birthday so the family went out of dinner)But, all pistons out, crank out, halves split (obviously), I'll be taking all pieces to the machine shop on Thursday to get some of the work done (honed/bored + order larger pistons with rings), head work (cleaned, ported, polished) manifolds (cleaned, ported, polished) I'll take pics tomorrow of everything split before I bring it out to the machine shop. Hold tight, there will be a lot of pics coming!edit: Looks like the engine was in good shape, no signs of wear/scoring on the crank or main bearings. Con rod bearings had slight scuff marks, but nothing out of the ordinary. Once all is cleaned honed bored polished I'll be re-assembling everything then sending it out to get balanced.
