My Engine Build Thread

edit edit: Damn that crank is heavy!

You should try and source out a crank from a 02 or newer 2.4lpt then. It's about 4kg's lighter than the old one.

Just a tips.

Good luck with your buid.

I am also trying to get my bulid going. But not easy. Getting married in september and buying a house........

I am going for 2.4 ltt block. 83mm bore. h-conrods, Garret GT3076R wg. and RC 550cc or 750cc. Hopefully a automat tranny delete on my 99 me7 car. and a 6speed m66 awd tranny.

Goal is about 475bhp on the crank.

just not sure how tuning with turbo tuner would go...

3076 ok with rica?

Good question for those of you who did a build...

Is it necessary to balance the shortblock? The question is, if you know the crank is good, and the conrods come pre-balanced to the .01 gram, same with pistons, what's the point in balancing it, any slight vibration will be picked up by the harmonic balancer no?

Next question, are ARP studs for the head necessary? Whats the pros/cons between ARP studs and oem bolts?

No problem at all running a GT30 turbo with the Turbo-Tuner. If you are familiar with the product and comfortable with tuning by yourself, you can get a decent custom tune done from start to finish within 2 hours easily. Alternatively take your car to a tuning shop and let them make the tune for you.

maciekb2002 seems to like his rica tune? I just don't know how in depth you would have to go with turbotuner, and how long it would take

Assuming the mechanical aspects of the car are spot on, custom tuning with Turbo-Tuner can be done pretty quickly. Customers using Turbo-Tuner range from novices to experienced tuners and they are all making good progress. Some have already improved on their previous custom remaps from MTE and RICA etc, so that alone demonstrates the product's capability in the right hands.

How in depth? Well, the fact that Turbo-Tuner is plug-and-play and also comes with an example tune to get you started means that there is nothing "in depth" about it. You can even share tunes with other Turbo-Tuner users so if someone has a setup similar to yours then the chances are you can start from a good base map.

There is also a community on the support forum which is good for sharing knowlegde and experience with other users, troubleshooting etc, product news and updates, meets and demo sessions etc.

alright you got me sold :P when everythings together (2 weeks or so) I'll be grabbin turbo tuner. Nice to see you actually respond on here!

Excellent! :)

I do try to respond here, but it's not easy to check for interest in the product here unless I get an email or pm. The other problem is that I'm not actually clear on what I can/cannot say about the Turbo-Tuner product on this forum, so in order not to cause grief I tend not to promote it here.

So turbo is still in question, but I have some time before I need to think about that.

I'll be using a machine shop that we send all of our heads out to, and luckily enough they're a mahl distributor (checked on the site!)

So I'll be getting them to bore the cylinders out to 81.2mm and i'll get them to order up the pistons for OS1. Then I'll assemble everything back together (short block) and send it to them to get balanced.

and then! I get the head ported / polished, along with both manifolds and throttle body. Everything is coming together a bit too quickly, I was hoping to draw it out over a year or so, but the further I get the more anxious I get haha.

I'm ordering the R-sport rods right now, and hopefully they'll come in. Question for BlackT5: I saw you post something for some rods from a swedish manufacturer that were cheaper than rsport rods and produced 800hp? Just wondering if you have the site and if there are any clearance issues with the block? If not I'll order those instead.

edit: Out of all the sizes for the con rod bolts... 10mm 12 point! GAY! Out of all my 12 point sockets, I don't have a 10mm. Guess I'll be calling snapon on monday :(

I don't remember where in which section, but there is one topic, where you can read that almost all the dealers buy from the same factory in china.

So R sport will have the same quality rods like this guy in Sweden,

awesome, I'm ordering the rods today.

i fyour still worried about block clearance issues regarding rods then dont, that has been fixed. I have seen both the ones that are too wide and the normal ones. The wide ones are in fact in my engine right now

Well all the pieces are at the machine shop to get cleaned, tomorrow they're going to hone/bore the cylinders and order up some mahle pistons. I think that I'm going to stick with the stock t5 exhaust manifold as I don't see the benefit being great enough to drop $400 CAD... mind you the manifold is getting ported with the head so hopefully it doesn't cause a huge restriction.

Id also like to know how much that is running you, but if your having the manifold port matched it seems a bit silly not to spend 250 bucks and pick up an r mani here on the forum...I wouldn't want to spend the money but everything your putting into the motor it would be a shame to be missing that one part, and the overall design of the R mani compared to the t5 is just better, not just the port sizes... but since I haven't said it yet, awsome build, good info for me and its nice to have another current build on the forum!

I know its just hard for me to bite for an r manifold as I'm spending msot of the money at the machine shop. I'm going over there to discuss the port and polishing tomorrow. When I know how much it will cost I will let you all know. 250 usd is 400 cad, which is not worth the hp gain... we'll see though, ill contact local scrapyards

decisions been done, what vehicles come with the r manifold? I can find out at work, just want to price some via scrapyard today.

next! What injectors, and where can i find them for direct fit into a volvo s70 (connectors, sealing, etc...)

Thanks,.
