Do you guys have any interference noise on your units?

I do and I'm wondering if I should just change my ground or if I should get a noise eliminator.

What type of interference you hearing? Detailed description on install helps in a diagnosis.

I agree. I'll get back to you on that. I'll try and go take a video.

In the searches I've done I noticed all the posts about interference noise were on P2 cars (90x) HUs.

The red and yellow wires work the other way around too, but then your iPod won't charge with the ignition off. Ask me how I know...

Ok, ok--how do you know? :)

I had _slight_ alternator whine & background noise when I added an external amp...had to go through the whole system & make sure the grounds were OK. Finally got it down to almost inaudible, but it's still there. I had one of those aftermarket DIN to RCA cables with 3 ground connections (!), running the Black ground wire to the amps' RCA ground did most of the improvement, but cleaning the adapters' connectors helped significantly. BTW, relocating the USA•SPEC PA11 didn't help at all, nor did grounding its case. Next step is to run the radio ground direct to chassis. There was no apparent noise at all when using the HU to drive the speakers. I'm not a fan of ground isolators, better to get rid of the noise.

I posted a while ago on this very issue, to deafening silence. Do you have an external amp? Mine was fine with just the 816, adding an amp brought on the noise.

I hope an amp does not = interference.

Anyway, could not get the install done. I tried to do a test before splicing into the accessory and constant wires with the red and yellow wires from the unit's cable. What I did was to stick the wire ends from the red and yellow wires into the pin holes of the harness (12 and 13) and then fastened the harness. I got no juice to the iPod and the HU said EEEE. I retried, thinking it was a bad contact, but no go.

The diagram I found identifies pins 12 and 13 as the battery and accessory wires, but it says the wires will be red and yellow, respectively. The wires on my harness are not those colors. In fact, there's no red and no yellow wire from the harness at all. Should I just go and splice into 12 and 13 anyway?

What is the year and model # you are working on?

The red(Yellow/Violet) and yellow wire(Green/Brown) are for ignition and constant power respectfully.

Additionally you will need to purchase the CBP VOL cable to make yours work on an older Volvo. This cable is used on 2001 and older models and replaces the Honda harness you pictured earlier. I have never tried to use your harness in an older model and do not know if it would work. You could try and use it, but bear in mind worse case scenario you burn something up such as the adapter or the radio. Best answer is to call USASpec directly, but I would just order the cable you need otherwise they would not list it in the directions as such. The colors listed should be the ones in your car, but I do suggest you use a test light or multi meter to verify. There should be one factory accessory wire(yellow/violet) and 2 constant wires(green/brown, either one). Cable should be under 30$, good luck.

Thanks for the info. Confirming those wires are in pin positions 12 and 13?

BTW, pretty sure I do have the cable. It's the one with the yellow/red wires in the pic at the top of this thread.

Cable needed is not in any of your images you have posted. The CBP VOL cable is long enough to run to the length of the car from the radio to the trunk. So unless you have this cable you need to buy one. It will install between the adapter and the cable with the yellow and red wires. The part that has the blue Honda plug will not be used. Good luck.

Everything you have is all you'll need to make it work on a SC8XX radio.

. . .

That's all there is to it.

    Me confused. I thought I had the CBP VOL cable.

No confusion, cable does not come standard with the HON-PA11, but must be purchased separately.

Just looked on USASpec site and noticed they have a newer version that would also work. Would not have all that excess cable to tie up.

Got impatient and wanted to rule out that I have the wrong cable. Comparing what I have with the pics at Crutchfield of the cable that comes with the USA Spec box and the specific adaptor cable, it looks like I have only part of the necessary adaptor cable. Thinking the part that I don't have might be merely an option extension, I tried it out.

I first connected the shorter cable to the HU and spliced in the red and yellow wires to constant and accessory. I then connected that to the other cable that has the extra blue harness. Initially, no problem. Then when I connected that cable to the box, the HU indicated "phone" (all buttons non-responsive). Needless to say, I disconnected the cable. After that, the HU worked properly again.

Anyone know what "phone" means (other than "wrong cable dummy")?
