jdlc
My t5m is a money pit. I never planned for anything but ended up gobbling up $h!+ I see here, lol.R-panels, short shifter, tuned ecu & ipd tcv, suspension upgrade, hid, clear sides, side markers, etc. etc Not to mention maint items I inherited - complete t-belt service, tune up, vac & ic hoses, PCV service (got the parts, yet to do it), htr core, rad and cooler lines (almost $0 for these last 2 items because of my resourcefulness ) & a host of other small things. I set my goal to 17 psi, and I haz that (ecu) already, but I thought, throwing a full 3" exhaust using Rmani will make the car breath better. And then I'm done, cross my heart and hope to die .(Obviously, future maint items will be at hand, like possibly clutch, with RMS for kicks, but right now, she's holding 3rd at 4-5.5k rpm with no issues - and what a sweet spot that is to take off from, whew). PsychoWagon
That's what I said, now I have a build thread going on lol.

Yeah, you will need a clutch very soon. Better save for rods also.G

I do want to replace the clutch and have the RMS replaced and maybe throw lsd in the mix .Stock rods should hold with 17 psi max I'm told ? Not true then? jdlc
i hit 19psi consistentlyWith stock rod, and launching from 4.5-5krpm on 3rd once in a while ? That's the contextof this last inquiry about 17psi being safe still to the stock rods.
ozzimark
If it's a good tune, it should be fine.. but honestly, why are you launching from that high up? Anything over ~2.5k is generally useless from my experience... :P
GeraldJ
I have a feeling if I side stepped the clutch at that rpm one of 2 things would happen......Tires spinning making a lot of smoke and not going anywhere. Clutch would fry of diff would explode.

Anything over ~2.5k is generally useless from my experience... Because I can, lol.Am I missing anything?Okay, I'm on third, prowling on unsuspecting prey, all revved, up, then somebody makes a move. Yo mash the gas WOT and zoom, you're out of there, shift to 4th at about 5.5k (this is where I hit around 17 psi just b4 shifting), and you're REALLY out of there. I don't think I spin the tire, I do that on 2nd when I try to make her move from dead start.BTW, I have single mass flywheel, and I'm told, that is a good thing Car has 150k+ now, a good time to have new clutch, and like I said, RMS to boot. I do intend to use it for sometime, I'm just playing with it once in a while just to test added mods, lol.

That's not a launch to most people, since a launch is from standstill, thus my confusion. Yeah, that should be fine. In fact, it's almost best to do that, since the rods seem to bend from too much torque or poor tuning in the lower RPM band. My guess is spark advanced too much (especially on the stock tune), causing massive pressure spikes just after TDC, bending the rods. Doesn't happen as much in the higher RPM range because the pressure takes "more" time to build up compared to the movement of the cylinder, and it's hard to get such a massive pressure spike.
