If i buy the CBV upgrade kit from Viva performance ( http://www.vivaperformance.com/catalog/pro...products_id=779 ) will i have to buy shims for it too? Or will the new spring be sufficient enough for my boost levels (Ipd Ecu 14.5 psi). Quickbrick motor sport's CBV kit sells the diaphragm and shims but no spring so I'm not sure which one to buy.

Or should i just buy this? http://www.forgemotorsport.co.uk/content.a...product=FMFK050

There was recently a thread on this but it didn't really answer any of my questions as to which is the best route to go. If the forge motor sports one is by far the best I wouldn't mind spending the money, but if there is really no difference It'd be nice to save a few bucks.

Frank at Eurosport sells the Forge kit for $195! I would NOT order from Viva... George does not deserve any more buisness!

The other day I saw a correct Mitsubishi replacement (the red one) on eBay. I think it was around $30. I figured I'd buy several since shipping is from Japan and is a little high for a single piece.

I did the JB Weld / washer thing but honestly it is probably perfectly fine stock with the new spring. Now the wastegate actuator on the other hand.... if you've got a 15G it is without a doubt marginal at higher boost levels. The 16T actuator is better.

I'd do a stock style replacement on the CBV and find a good actuator if I were going to dig around down there...

Ordered that CBV off Ebay last summer. Was defective right out of the package and seller would not respond. So if you get a defective one good luck on getting a response. I would get a good one off a fellow forum member till IPD comes out with their heavy duty version along with replacement high rate springs. Hopefully sooner than later, but I am patient.

The orange CBV that VIVA sells and can be found on ebay is the proper mitsubishi one. I have been running one for a while now and no problems at all. Kando_Dynamic is a good seller, not sure if he has any left, i'm waiting for him to order me a wastegate actuator for the 16T, 4 weeks to go. Also, when i bought the diaphragm it arrived like a few days later on a weekend also, very quick delivery.

oh ok, gotcha. Since I'm only running an IPD ECU tune with I think only 16lbs of boost it should be ok with no shims then.

the ViVa kit comes with a brand new Mitsi diaphram, the spring is made to be stronger than stock so therefore you do not need shims unlless you are running crazy boost

See, this is why I am naive when it comes to car things. The CBV instructions state the amount of shims to use depending on the amount of boost, and give boost levels from 9 - 20 psi. For 10 psi of boost, it states to use 2 shims, for 16 psi of boost, 4 shims. If the shims aren't needed unless running crazy boost levels, why state the amount of shims then? So based on the instructions, I was thinking I needed 4 shims in the CBV.

In summary, I shouldn't need any shims in the Viva CBV based on the stiffer spring.
