98 S/v/c/70 European Speedo Cluster

Recommended Posts

I see that you have been taking post lessons from Greg (disagree but give no valuable info). :)and my second post was in jest.

Gary

Sorry, that was my feeble attempt at humor.

Gary

My apologies.

I've got a '98 UK spec R cluster in my car and love it. Have yet to tap out that 160mph speedo. Keep in mind guys that with this cluster the gallons are imperial gallons, which are larger than the standard U.S. gallons. So your trip computer will show that you are getting amazing gas mileage, but isn't that helpful.

I'm pleased to hear some success stories! This is a very easy mod guys and really turns your display into a genuine European style.

I have some for 99-2000 S/V/C/70 cars if anyone is interested. They will require a dealer re-flash for which I do not know the cost.

The dealer can also flash your new mileage into the cluster but again I'm not sure what is involved - I have just been told it is possible when spoken to various dealers in the US and Canada.

The easiest way to do the swap is actually to just swap the Euro guage face assemblies over (face, motor, needle) into your existing cluster. You can then have a dealer plug into your OBDII and change your speedo setting from U.S. Spec 140MPH cluster to UK Spec 160mph cluster mode. This allows you to retain your exact mileage and recalibrates the speedo so it registers correctly. Danny did mine and it literally took him like 10 seconds. He used the standard Volvo handheld scan tool.

Good idea! I personally like all the little differences the Euro cluster offers but how you did it is definitely a great way to keep it simple. Thank you for the feedback!

Actually if you do it the way I did, I don't think there are any differences. You use the actual Euro faces, and when you reprogram your cluster, it even shows temp in Celsius and time in 24 hour clock. Pretty cool. I love to tell my friends it is 15:30 or whatever when they ask what time it is!

You can get the US-spec clusters to show the Celsius and the 24-hour clock, too. ;)

The Euro cluster has different markings for the fuel, different CEL light, and a few other light differences.

In any case how about someone buy this cluster??
