Carbon Fiber Hood

Recommended Posts

so i have been thinking of wrapping my hood in carbon fiber since the hoods are hella expensive.

A guy i know in daytona that wraps nascars for daytona speedway, says he can do the 3M sheets for 50 bucks but im afraid vinyl wil look cheesy.

then i saw some people use real carbon fiber and wrapping random parts then clear coating them. That got me thinking!

I found the material and relitivly cheap, but how does one go about applying it to surface and bonding it to metal? or old paint?

has any one done anything like this?has any one done vinyl? whats it look like ? any photos?

thanks much in advance

Wrapping a hood? That defeats the purpose of a CF hood unless you are just going for the look.

Im not sure how the resin bond would hold up to the heat of hood. Just be prepared to spend alot of time and money on sandpaper and resin. Remember that a non molded part takes a long time to get it to a Class A finish. You will need to coat with a high quality UV resistant clear coat, and when you do, you will see every little imperfection. You will also add a decent amount of weight to the hood.

I would spend the right money not to F up your hood. Your just going to spend more $ fixing it

Speak to Frank at Euro Sport tunning, last time he was at my shop with his 850R euro spec it had a sweet carbon fibre hood on it. i seem to remeber him saying something around 1000$ but I could be wrong. Either way the hood looked like they used the frame of the factory hood and cut the skin off!
