$500 can get you a used Pioneer AVIC-Z1..... (touchscreen w/ hard drive for the maps and for music)

find the site that lets you download the avic-z3 software for free... do the mod... $500 AVIC-Z3... like magic.

unless u really want the hard drive setup, why buy used? cd only with nav such as the newer avic-f700bt is under 500, and the avic-f90bt is a under 600.

image dynamics has some pretty good subs, jl subs aren't too bad either.

Look at the kenwood double din units.

If I was you and I could do my system over again...

I would replace the rear deck 2 ways with 8 inch subs as well as a component setup in the back, woofers in the doors, tweeters on the pillars.

For the front another component system. I hear infinity is good, two of my friends have polk component setups and they are nice.

The other thing I would do if you are up to it, is a lot of research on some of the DIY forums. I think there can be a lot of money saved by not going mainstream brands. I also hear that the non-brand name speakers that are USA made are much higher quality and less money.

You might also be able to find a Pioneer AVIC-900BT or AVIC-90BT for cheap, they were 1k+ when they first came out but now less than a year later they are 2/3s of the price or less.

They are nice units how ever they take about 30+ seconds to fully boot up but I would tend to think that this is they way all navigation/multimedia decks are, just another thing to look at.

I'm excited to see what you will do. :)

i think a carpc would be a good investment instead of getting this pioneer headunit

ehhh I wouldnt

I have a JVC headunit with USB attachement and also a SD input

with that and a burnt dvd -4gigs of music +SD 8gigs of music +jump drive -100gigs

I dont see any reason to ever buy anything else , that and car PC = still a PC so f that crap.

I have both JVC and Kenwood 7" touch screens in each of my cars and its awsome

In the wagon - JVC headunit , 1- 1x400 Pioneer amp for the doors and a 500x1 for my sub Rockfordfosgate P3 shallow mount

Then the coupe is

Kenwoowd Head and then a Alpine PDx5 4x100 and 300x1 and a alpine sub

wife wagon will be

Pioneer head with Ipod connection .

Alpine PDx5 amp

and some 300watt 12" sub

Alpine PDx5 amp has enough for everything you want in your car and its tiny enough to fit under neath any of your seats

Instead of shopping like a girl and just going by brand names, figure out what kind of stats you're looking for and find equipment that matches your needs.

+1, you have to know what kind of sounds you want and how much your willing to spend before you proceed.

Speakers are more about preference than anything. Go to a shop and listen to a couple different component sets and see which ones you like.

Figure out a budget so we can better help you. And remember to add in the cost of wire, rca's, fuses, etc. and sound deadener.
