Guest rpaulson7
I cannot find the fuel filter on a 2004 Volvo S60 2.5L turbo. I'm reading that it should be near the passenger side rear wheel, but I am following the fuel line from the tank to the engine and can't find it.Thanks. vegasjetskier
Here are the VADIS directions. The drawing isn't very good, but it looks like it's just inside the rocker panel:S60FuelFilter2004.pdf
303jrodt5
Most are back in the right rear are near the R/R wheel. IIRC the newer S60's like yours are in the tank and not replaceable.
Ihatespeedbumps
Having an external fuel filter will depend on what type of fuel tank you have. If it's black plastic, it will have an external filter that is replaceable. If it has a metal tank (silver in color) the fuel filter is integrated into the fuel pump. Usually not serviced. Sounds like you may have a metal tank car.
Guest renee.allen@k12.sd.us
I do have a metal tank, yes. So it must be in the fuel pump, huh? And that seems to agree with some documentation for the engine (drawings) I found online.Would that have to be serviced by a mechanic then? A heads up though, the filter is only sold with the pump, it is not removable. I think you are going to be floored by the price of that pump. If you are hellbent on replacing it, I will give you some instructions.
rpaulson7
I had AutoZone run the free diagnostic test today, and there was a message about too much pressure in the fuel line, like excessive pressure. Maybe flooding the engine?? Not sure. I figured the fuel filter was the cheapest fix, so I bought it, and of course couldn't find it to replace it.My car is hesitating/sputtering occasionally at varying speeds and frequency, and often when I punch the gas. Yesterday it stalled as I came to a stop sign. The RPMs just slowly went to 0 and she quit. I already tried some IsoHeet in the gas, and had the mass airflow sensor cleaned. Then I got the diagnostic info today.Any clues? I saw the price of the fuel pump at AutoZone because I asked, about $260. But, they also sold me a fuel filter that isn't the right one, so now I'm not sure if that's the right fuel pump. Does that price sound about like what I need? Ihatespeedbumps
Probably not the right fuel pump. This is something I would purchase from the dealer without question. If you are getting a DTC for fuel pressure issues there may be a number of causes. The first thing I would do is call your local dealer and see if your car is eligible for Recall 181. They can look this up by VIN # so have it handy. It is for the fuel pressure sensor which is located on the fuel rail. I think it effected 03-05 s60's (not 100% positive about the years) Start there and post back tomorrow.

rpaulson7
Excellent, I think that will solve your issue. Keep us posted.I had the recall work performed on Tuesday, and it seems to have fixed my problem. I haven't felt the engine hesitation at all in about 2 days of driving, and previously it had been happening every time I drove the car. The dealership showed me the letter sent to the service dept. from Volvo, and it mentioned occasional misfiring and unexpected stalls as possible effects, both of which I experienced.Thank you all very much for the help. I would still be chasing this thing down if I hadn't come here, and maybe paid for unnecessary work.
