Here's Another One

I have a qt of ATE Racing blue, a 27 'big can' of Volvo DOT4+ and a small 8oz Volvo DOT4+, all unopened.

I'm acquiring a MOTIV bleeder and will do both my Volvo cars, and including the clutch on the T5M (not sure MOTIV has cap/adapter for our XP, being Ford, but I'm hoping it would and that'll be a bonus ;)).

I'm thinking, I can mix them up so the color will be blue to help me visually in the process. Read both cans and there's nothing that says don't mix with so and so. Specs are the same, the only difference is ATE is DOT4 and not DOT4+.

Any reason I shouldn't do it and just do them separately?

Yes.

It's your brakes. D'uh.

Unless you are 100% sure there is absolutely zero chance there will be any kind of issue whatsoever, don't mix brake fluids.

Hi, here is my 2 cents worth.

You can mix dot 3, 4, 4+, 5.1 because it is glycol based

You can not mix dot 5 with anything but dot 5 becuse it is silicone based

saying that i would not mix Volvo 4+ with the ATE super blue becuase super blue as far as i can remember is silcone based.

Thats my bit into this topic.

Good luck....

Yeah, thanks man. I'm aware about the DOT5 being the 'bastard' kind and not to be mixed with the rest of 'em. Let me find out if ATE Superblue is silicone based.... it's DOT4 though.
