HI everyone. new guy here. I ve been on the site before for various things. The S40 timing belt write-up was excellent, btw. great site

The problem I am having with my Dad's 03 S40 1.9T. It has 100K miles. The car is maintained meticulously by me. So the problem is sometimes it wont start. Usually it does. It cranks slow when it is cold outside sometimes, but not always. A few days ago it would not start and it was almost 70 degrees outside, all that happened was the fan came on and stayed on for a while with the key out of the ignition completely. wtf. Then minutes later my Dad said he pressed in the gas pedal slightly and started it.

there are no codes or pending codes. Alt is charging batt properly. My Dad says he never leaves the int lights on or radio on without the engine running.

How can I diagnose this???

if it cranks but wont start, then you try and crank it a few more times and it starts, probably a fuel pressure regulator. I've seen ... on those cars a messed up mass airflow sensor cause the fan to run for a while after key out.

You need to get your fuel pressure after it sits for a few hours.
