Wastegate Actuator

Recommended Posts

Could someone give me some info about the wastegate... like how do i check what psi it is currently set to and what psi should it be set to for my tune...I have an Ipd Ecu, stock 16t. I think my brother messed with it years ago and I want to make sure its set at the correct length.

The only reason I want to look into this is because I'm only getting 10-11 psi where i should be getting 14-15. I upgraded the cbv valve so i know its not that, and all the vacuum lines were recently replaced too. I'm wondering if maybe i should replace the wastegate actuator?

You're going to hook up the wastegate line to a pressure pump and lengthen/shorten the arm as needed so it starts to open with 3/4 lbs of pressure.

Are you on your stock BCS, MBC, etc.?

So lenghtening/shortening the wastegate rod so that it opens under 3/4 lbs of pressure, is that pretty much universal for all turbos? On my S70 T5, years ago I shortened the rod 2 full turns, and now since the motor is being rebuilt, I shortened it another full turn, so 3 full turns in total I shortened it.

Does this adjustment depend at all on a tuned ECU, or a 3" DP or anything else? Just wondering if I should go back to the 2 turns instead of the 3. I saw in a more recent post someone mentioning bending rods if you go overboard with shortening it, so it has me thinking, is 3 turns too much.

Yea mostly everything is stock other than the cbv. I don't have an mbc and i was under the impression that i should get 14.5 psi without one.

When you replaced the CBV, did you use RTV sealer?  Also, double check all your silicone lines.  When I replaced mine a couple weren't zip tied tight enough and I had a couple of leaks.  It's probably not a wastegate issue, much more likely a vacuum leak somewhere.  edit:  The only reason that I can think of for the wastegate causing your issue is if the wastegate itself is not properly seating.

That seems like a lot.  I put a pressure gauge and pumped air on mine when I adjusted it and I think I only made 1 turn on it for 3-4lbs.  3 turns is probably going to build boost too quickly.  Shouldn't make much difference on what your other mods are.
