Mete Goktepe
Hello, I bought the 400w factory amplifier(for C70) from E-bay and installed in my 850.. it works perfectly.. I installed it under the drivers seat which was the best place to put it.my problem is the amp drains the car battery if the car is not driven in 3 days. is there a way to make sure the amp doesnt receive current when the audio system is turned off and therefore the ignition is turned off? for now I have to disconnect the positive battery cable of the amp to avoid the battery drain... I will be really happy if anyone guides me how to connect the amps positive cable to the cars ignition system.. thanks
BEJinFBK
If you've used the 6 pin DIN cable from the deck to the amp, it includes the remote turn on lead. The amp should shut down when the deck is off. If that is how you connected it, and you still see the amp draining power, you MAY have a faulty amp... Mete Goktepe
hello, yes thats how I connected the amp.. then the problem is not related with the amp I guess.. thank you for your reply..
HeavyIron
hello, yes thats how I connected the amp.. then the problem is not related with the amp I guess.. thank you for your reply.. I noticed this also when I hooked up my 4x100. I did nothing about it b/c mine is a DD. To fix it, you must run the power wire through the fuse block which is disabled by the ignition b/c the amp does not have an internal shutoff it continues to idle even if there is no signal unless power is switched off. BEJinFBK
I disagree. In the stock C70 installation, the B+ lead (the big yellow wire ) connects to constant battery power. The remote on trigger in the 6 pin DIN "wakes it up" by showing the amp 12 volts. If the remote-on lead is not showing the amp power (radio off), thea main amp power lead should draw virtually no power. It should NOT kill the battery! Unless the amp is faulty...There's a good chance, a VERY GOOD chance that a previous owner of that amp beat the crud out of it by overdriving it or hanging a subwoofer off of it with impedences that were too low. I can't help but think there may be some leaky power transistors in the final stages that are...questionable... Check your battery's condition ( Always Check the Power Supply! ) and you can also try unhooking the amp for a few days and see what you get. If the car still starts after a week, start looking at the last thing you added. The Amp. At that point, if you know somebody that has the test gear and the know how, I'd consider getting that amp looked at. Good Luck!
Mete Goktepe
hi again, if the amplifier is disconnected and car sits with amp disconnected(my battery is only 5 months old) there is no power issue.but what makes me confused is: I already know that the DIN cable should turn the amp when the HU is turned on and it should turn it off when the HU is turned off. thats how I connected the amplifier. my question is if I connect the amp to the car's ignition would this help to cure the problem? I will do this tomorrow and see what happens.because its the easiest solution at the moment. thank you for the information and comment.
BEJinFBK
With the DIN unplugged, put an ammeter inline with the main power lead. I wouldn't expect to see more than a few milliamps of draw. Connecting the main lead through the ignition switch sounds like a recipe for disaster... ! That amp pulls a fair bit of power when you turn it up. If you really want to do that, you'd better use a good sized relay!
Mete Goktepe
ok I will do that test and inform you tomorrow... thanks

But there are several empty slots on the fuse block underneath the drivers side winshield wiper cowl that are switched on/off by the igntion (no relay needed) just tap into one of those. And actually mine takes about 4-5 days to drain.

MeanGreenSwedeMachine
Was it a direct install? Or did you have to do any wiring?
BEJinFBK
Was it a direct install? Or did you have to do any wiring? The DIN in and speaker out should be Plug N Play. The 400w will need a heavy power connection to the battery, though. 8 ga. with a fuse at the battery and an 8 ga. ground should do the trick. Party On, Wayne - Party on, Garth! PS: This is all going on the assumption that you've already got the smaller stock amp under the passenger seat...
