2000 S70 - Buy Or Not Buy?

Hello everyone,

I am in the midst of debating to purchase an original owner 2000 S70 with 30000(!) miles on the clock. After spending the last doing some research, it is apparent that one of my first repairs will be the ETM. What other bugs should I look for with this car? What are the average repair costs for this car?

Any input is appreciated and thank you in advance.

Apparently he has full service records done at volvo. He is asking 7400$ CDN (I am in Montreal) and don't know how negociable he will be.

Wow I would say that is a great price for such a low miles car if it is in good shape (aka maintained and not in an accident). What did he do store it for the past 5 years? Make sure you rub Carfax to be sure it was not in an accident and that there are not odometer discrepancies (suspicious with miles that low).

I just looked up the KBB, It was $6500usd for a GLT SE (not sure what model it is)

6500usd = about 7k CDN

Except that cars are generally much more expensive in Canada, currency conversion aside. I would expect to pay a lot more for this car in Ontario, not sure about QC but I bet it is even worse there.

Well,

I test drove the car today...by all accounts it is a 48 000 km car. Will have a full inspection done on it, but it appears I will be purchasing it (provided it passes with no surprises). Thanks for all the help!!

Do the ETM upgrade and basically just do a good stage 0 tune-up, you should be set.

Do you know what sort of transmission is in it? Turbo or no?

Use a good synthetic motor oil and transmission fluid with OEM filters. Even with low mileage, you might want to change all the fluids since after 9 years some may be a bit tired.

Good luck! :)

5spd auto

Non turbo. The car is going to have a full inspection done on it tomorrow, so I'll know exactly what is wrong (hopefully nothing) with it.
