hi-i'm new here.you guys seem more up to date on FWD.i have a couple of 240's & have been a Tbricks member.i bought a '98 C70 a few months ago & other than it being an auto,i like it a lot.i picked up the '99 wagon cheap because it was a stick.lots of little things wrong like mismatched injectors(see my post in wanted).the engine lite is on (NO SUPRISE)...hard starting, usually 2-5 tries. has the typical hi/lo idle between 750-900...etm sticker is yellow.car shows 120K,but evidence of electrical fire/junkyard writing on parts...main question-what does the sensor coming off the coilpack harness with coilpacks 1&2 do.mine is just hanging on the back of the valvecover by 1 bolt(of it's 4 bolt holes).i'm sure it has to go on something i'm missing...looks like someone tried to have some fun with it though.has poly mounts,i added a gauge i had lying around & it pulls to 14lbs through the gears.very strong once under way.i'm sure getting 5 matched injectors will only help.not driving now it as i can't see that the one lean cylinder can be good...i live in a non-volvo area, so any help would be greatly appreaciated thanks

The sensor is the CVVT solenoid. It controls oil flow to the CVVT hub. It should have 4 bolts installed, and I would be surprised if it wasn't leaking oil right now with only one bolt installed.

The CVVT primarily functions @ idle for emission control so it could have something to do with your poor idle condition.

thanks, whatever the solenoid bolts to is missing, the solenoid is hanging from a valve cover bolt, the bottom surface open.looking down alongside the headpipe i see a hose coming from box at engine bottom with a bolt stuck in it.oil return perhaps?...thanks i'm much further along now...if anyone might have one? i'll post in wanted

Best off to search for the stage Zero threads.

An overhaul to get in top shape, perhaps a few pics would help.

14 lbs of boost is not stock.its( 7-10 best) Check to see if the ecu has been modified, you should see marker or a sticker.

Do a compression check, and continue from there, also check timing belt immediately.

Wagons are sweet with 5 speed. : )

thanks-i have done oil change, cleaned the K&N,& plugs.no blow by out the cap.have a lead on blue injectors.timing belt looks fine, writing on cover says 78,137.i was not kidding when i say junkyard dog.my first clue should have been that the black plastic top covers didn't fit the valve cover, let alone that solenoid with nothing to attach to.see today, assuming date code for head is near exhaust cam gear, that it's dated 2/94,along with other coding being lower #'s than my '98 C70,that head is from a '94,duh,duh,duh.aside from hard starting/hi-lo idle, motor is smooth, quiet,& very strong (boost?too high?-i run 22lbs on the b230ft in the track car)...i may get down to the LA area soon & may look for a newer head, but until then any thoughts on getting it to run better with this head would be appreaciated...thanks again for the help

thanks for the diagram.i guess thats why it's hanging off the head...although it appears head has been off, leaning towards that its a '94-'95 motor(block) with everything else from the '99,intake,coilpacks,angle flange turbo ect.if i am to believe the label on the belt cover it's a B5234T,sn# 268856...i'm going to check fuel pressure & get the matched injectors in before i go any further...hoping can at clear up hard starts,i can live with the idle(never stalls)for now.for all it's faults,it's a hoot to drive.it'll dust the C70, & could almost keep up with my '83 Tic (until the corners)...i'm an old(fart)school RWD fan, haven't quite got FWD down :) thanks for the input
