tHe.iR1sH
Good Day, I own an s60 2.4T 2002 with the factory keyless entry system. -What is the most cost effective route to purchase new remote(s) for my vehicle? -I've seen OEM units online and others used. -Are those a possibility? If not, why? -How do I identify the part number necessary for my car? Is it based off my VIN or other vehicle code? How does the dealer identify the part number necessary? Your expertise is appreciated. Regards, iR1sH
Ihatespeedbumps
You will have to get a new unit and program it to your vehicle, which will require you to go to the dealer or an indy shop that has VIDA and the ability to order software. If you purchase a new unit online you need to make sure it has the serial numbers (located on the packaging) for the remote or the dealer won't be able to program it. I have never tried to install a used one so I won't be of much help there.
Jippi 855 GLT
from what i understand, 01+ cars you need to get new remotes from the dealer. the few i asked wont program remotes that you buy from outside sources.

Correct...and make sure that if it does have the serial numbers, that the remote is intended for use in your market, and not another market that doesn't share the same frequencies... Young Burnsy
Last time I checked at my dealer a keyless entry remote was $240 dollars. Hence why I am still using the key + door unlocking method. I think you would be better off going with an aftermarket system. For $240-$300 or thereabouts you should be able to get keyless entry, remote start, better alarm, and two pagers all installed.
