Rear Door Speakers

I would like a decent replacement for my rear door speakers. They have 2 small tweeters on them which broke off at the plastic and are rattling like crazy. I wouldn't mind something with more bass and a seperate tweeter (mounted on the rear deck?) Want to spend about $100, any idea's?

Trav,

You could buy my Infinity 6" Component system for 100 bucks. Crossovers & Tweets included. The tweets are brand new, in the box, the 6's were used for 6 months or so...

kev are they plug and play and will the speaker grille's fit over? why are you selling?

Trav,

I'm not sure if they're plug and play.. they're 6" speakers. I'm not that familiar with the interior of the 850... :( They're currenly installed in SCOSCHE 6x9 adapters. Just a little plate that makes them fit in a 6x9 spot.

I'm selling 'cause I need the money! I've had these sitting around my house for a while, and I saw you looking for a setup... so I figured why not try and let 'em go.. I'm not lookin to get rich on 'em..

Travis,

I forget, do you have the Premium Sound System (8 speakers) in your car? When the rear door speakers blew on mine and my brother's cars, we just pulled them out completely and put the grilles back covering the holes. Sitting up front, you can't tell the difference whatsoever. Even in the back, it is hard to notice they are gone because the stage for the rear door speakers is so low. Really, all you hear, while sitting in the back seat, is the sound coming from the rear deck speakers and sound from the front of the car.

IMO, it's not worth spending money to replace the rear door speakers. Save the money, and when/if your front speakers need replacing, use the saved $$ and invest in a good component setup. Your ears will thank you for it.

P.S. Just to give Bing more street credit, my current setup is 5 1/4" components in the front doors with the tweeters mounted in the stock dash location and just my rear deck (5x7/6x8) speakers. My head-unit has a feature to make the rear speakers act like subs (i.e. only low frequency signals are sent to them) and I have found that I really like this setup. Once you listen to a decent set of component speakers, it will blow away pretty much any coaxial speaker you throw at it.

Quick and dirty.

Remove them.

A car stereo should only have two tweeters.

If you want more bass, a Sub is your best option.

If you replace your door speakers (with non-factory) you will need to disconnect your Rear deck speakers or the Ohm load to the amp will be incorrect.

A 6.5" speaker WILL NOT fit in the rear doors.

lol, i dont even have to say anything anymore...people are putting words right into my mouth lol...

suggsetion for a cheap drop in replcaement spaker: 5.25" crystal cxe, infinity reference 5.25, with the ifninity much easier to find, so that would be my suggestion.

as for hte component vs coaxial debate, my opinion is that the coaxial design is in many ways better than components, having a point source for your mid and highs. unfortunately, most speaker company view their coaxials as their cheaper line, and as a result, features less sophisticate technology in them... and as a result 99 percent of the caoxials dont sound as good as components.

however, the selected few companies that know how to properly build a coaxial (same components and materials as their component sets, outboard crossover, etc), have some impressive sounding stuff, companies such as crystal, morel/macrom/ ads/jl audio to name a few.

removed the rear door speakers...didn't like the diff, i could tell they where missing. So i re-installed them but just cut the tweets off (taped off the wires) and i think it actually sounds better without them! No more rattling either!
