My $$$$ Brick

Recommended Posts

Hello good people,

I've had this problem for a while now and I think that I have it solved.

For a while now my Brick would have problems with starting. It was an on again, off again, thing and I didn't want to just throw parts at it hoping that I'd fix the problem. I've heard of everything from the starter relay to the starter it's self. I've pulled the codes and got one for the PNP switch and after the car wouldn't start two Sunday's ago, and the fact that the car stalled out on the tech that I use before he told me the bad news that I was certain that I already knew, fuel pump, was the other problem.

The other problem, as I mentioned earlier, that I was having is that the car would just stall out while driving. Whether at highway speeds or just around town the car would just die. Like it was running out of gas. But after a few minutes the car would start up again and off I'd go. It was an intermittant thing for about a year, so I never really thought about it, but has gotten worse in the last couple of months to the point where I haven't been driving very much.

With some luck, I know that the parts are in because I stopped by the shop after work today, I'll have my Brick back in time for Canada Day. :-)

Let me know if any of you can relate to my problem and what you did to fix yours.

Keep The Faith, Volvo For Life.

IF we're talking 850 or x70 then your problem sounds like a fuel pump relay issue. It's pretty common on 70's, much rarer to happen on 850's but it's been known to happen. Search for a thread by member CN90, he has a write up on doing a fuel pump relay bypass. If it fixes your problem then you have your answer, pretty easy and cheap to do to find out and, a simple part to replace.
