harleyhv
Ok here is the situation. Got a HU-803 with CD changer not working.... a cd got stuck a while back and had to take it apart to remove it... since then, no CD. I mainly use my IPOD for source of music with an FM transmitter... I know, I know... sound could be improved.... a lot however, still appreciate the Dolby Pro-Logic feature of the HU803... and would like to install a sub somehow... I even tried an HU850 as a replacement to find out that the steering wheel controls and backlight are not functional with a 2001... So anyway here are the options that I'm entertaining for the head unit (speakers update = future audio project) Option 1: * replace the Hu803 with the same thing (source => ebay) * install a USA SPec IPDO adaptor http://www.crutchfie...USA+Spec&tp=120 * get a powered subwoofer and the Volvo sub harness * have the HU803's software updated to be able to drive the sub. Option 2: * replace the HU803 with the KD-AVX77 from crutchield.com (with the installation gear package) http://www.crutchfie...7.html?tp=20217 demo http://www.crutchfieldadvisor.ca/S-bFkhcz8dKWO/videos/carstereos/jvc_kd-avx77.html * get a Steering Wheel Audio Control Adapter http://www.crutchfie...CK.html?tp=3405 * get a powered subwoofer and run a connection from the KD-AVX77 * get an amp to power the center front channel Considering the cost involved.... I'm guessing that option 2 would be a little costlier than option 1 but not by much, Option 2 also provides bluetooth integration.... However would Option 2 sound a lot better? Any feedback is welcomed
Young Burnsy
I would say yes, option 2 will sound a lot better. I think the hardest thing to source might be the center channel speaker/amp. I think the deck will handle the sub better. I right now have two Boston G512s attached to the HU-813 and I also have the USA-Spec ipod adapter. The adapter works great how ever there is a good amount of interference noise cause I think by a bad ground, I haven't investigated it yet but the issue can probably be solved by changing the ground and adding a line filter. Also depending on the price of the HU-803s option 2 could and most likely will be much more expensive then option 1.

Looks like center channel amp is indeed the challenge here for option 2 For option 1, finiding a decent price Hu803 would be it.

However, looks my car can't accept dual DIN unit according to Crutchield... 2001-2003 P2 only accept single DIN uit...

All of the Volvo decks are dual DIN. You just need to find a dual DIN dash kit.

You just need to find a dual DIN dash kit. It seems that you're right. Found a post in V79xc.om identifying the dual DIN faceplate for V70 The Volvo panel is: 9184995 or 9184996 for MY's until 2003 and 8684591 from MY 2004. Optional storage tray: » 9150773 -2003 » 8684594 2004- (listed as charcoal) and the optional cover plate: 9184042 -2003 8684593 2004- (charcoal) Looks it can be order at the dealership. Can someone validate this info?
harleyhv
For those interested. Went to the dealership this morning Confirmed * 9184995 is the part number for a double DIN MY's until 2003. It's around 45S (cdn) * 9184996 does not exist anymore. This simplifies things greatly.
