jmac
My 1999 S70 T5M loses coolant rapidly when I set the auto climate control to any temp above "blue cold" and run the A/C. I've replaced the heater core (thanks B Mac) but the problem persists and makes the car unusable as I must stop every 10 miles or so to add coolant. If I leave the control at the minimum "blue", little or no coolant disappears. Can you help me analyze this, or perhaps someone has already found the answer ? Is there a valve which permits the flow of coolant through the climate control system from the motor when calling for heat (either "less cold" A/C or regular heater)and shuts it off completely when not calling for heat (like our 740/940), or is the cabin temp only controlled by "blend doors" as the coolant flows all the time through the heater core ? Where else could it be leaking only when calling for heat ? Thanks !

jmac
Floors/carpets dry (well, relatively dry, we've had weeks of rain and everything's damp). In fact, there was no obvious leak/corrosion of the heater core, looked new when pulled, but we replaced it anyhow since we were there. Prev. owner reported coolant smell, and I've smelled coolant and had steamy windshield, that's gone now. There's no obvious indications of a leak, no clouds of steam, no froth in the oil. When I run the A/C I see cool liquid dripping beneath the car and presume it's condensation from the A/C, doesn't smell/feel like coolant. No other significant drips/leaks visible from above or below. I had a theory about: A/C puts more load on the motor which makes me use more gas-pedal hence more turbo and there's a bad seal in the turbo losing coolant...that might be a bit far-fetched. I hate to start randomly throwing parts at it, and very much appreciate your suggestions, thanks !

Boglin
Coolant has to be going somewhere, check the turbo lines pop off the snorkel inspect, maybe even the down pipe and preesurize the system 10psi or so
