AHL Posted July 13, 2009 Report Share Posted July 13, 2009 Hello, Just purchased this car less than a week ago and I was aware of the problem at the time but it seems more frequent now. Here are the symptoms: While driving or right after starting the car the speedometer and the odometer will just shut off for some period of time. It's been as short as 30 seconds and it's been as long as 15-20 minutes. During this time usually nothing else works strangely and the car drives just fine. It will come back on at some point and work for a long period of time once again. However, yesterday after turning on to a road the speedometer/odometer were not working and then while in drive the transmission (automatic) would not engage after it shifted while in D... I shifted down to 4... no luck, so I shifted down to 3... no luck. The engine would just rev up when I pushed the accelerator. Finally, I went back through the cycle, D... nothing, 4... nothing, 3... it worked and off we went. I then shifted back to up to D and it worked fine all the way home (about 10 miles). I have read other posts regarding bad speedo/odo problems linked to the ABS module. My only difference from those cars is that my ABS light has never come on. Is that still the most likely candidate? It will come back on at some point and work for a long period of time once again. Nothing works?? What do you mean by that? Could be ignition switch or a bad ABS module as you already know. I worded that really poorly... What I meant was that everything else works fine and nothing strange happens when the speedometer stops. Also, today while driving around town the speedometer/odometer shut off. At the next stop light the car started really slowly and didn't shift up through the gears like it normally does. After a couple blocks it went back to normal. i had that same problem at first then it got worse, then eventualy i had the abs light also. it ended up being my abs module, i had mine rebuilt by bba, i found them on ebay for $63.
