Driver Door And Front Quarter Panel Hitting

A few days ago I noticed the part that holds the door open stopped working. The thing in the door that allows you to open it half way or all the way and it holds it open. I figured it was just worn out, no big deal. Unfortunately this made me mad and I pushed the door open very hard several times. The door kept closing on me and it just made me more mad so I kicked the door open hard, it swung back at me and I repeated this a few times. Stupid to beat on my car I know. For the next few days I just got used to it and every so often I would swing it open hard frustrated. I drive to work today and park my car. I work until lunch time and go back out to my car. I open the door and get in. When I close my door I realize it is hitting something or something is just not right. I exit the car and open the door and notice the gray side molding on the door is hitting the front left quarter panel and popping off. I remove the side molding on the door and check to see if anything hits or rubs, all seems fine. I replace the molding and it still hits. If anything it is a little worse. I open the door a little and grab the handle and frame (window molding)and attempt to pull the door back. I figure the door shifted somehow and I can just pull it back for now so my molding does not pop off every time I open the door. It then becomes increasingly worse with every attempt to fix it.

As you can see in the pics it is not just the molding hitting anymore, but the whole door is bending in the front quarter panel. Not sure how it became so bad so quickly. My front left quarter panel was never in great shape since I got the car so I am thinking of just smashing it forward so that the door wont hit. I will replace the panel at some point. Would be nice to try to save the door since it cost much more to replace.

My question is, what is the best way to go about fixing this myself.

thank you.

I can't even believe what I just read is true. I was thinking there was going to be some line at the bottom of the post saying, "Just kidding!" Are you really that stupid? You have a problem with the door staying open, and instead investigating for the true problem, like a logical person would do, you beat it open until you buckle the fender!? :monkey::idiot:

Here's a news flash on how it happened so quickly - whatever is causing the door to not stay open, is also going to not prevent it to stop opening at a certain point. So every time you had your temper tantrum and kicked the door open, you were forcing it to open into the fender. This is true stupidity at its finest. :arob:

Thank you for the info. I talked to someone local and he said it was easy to take/move the fender. If I can not find one at the junk yard I might give you a PM. I live in Kansas by the way. I was not sure if the door or fender was more likely to move out of place. I assumed since the door was still lined up with the lock that the door was not the problem.

I gave all info so that people on this forum who want to help could know exactly all details in order to help better. Name calling is not nice. When you are older and have kids I hope you raise them with more thought then you put in your post.

Ummm....I do have kids and I still think it was complete stupidty in how you handled your situation. By your reply, it sounds as if you are older with kids. That makes this more pathetic, as I would have thought maybe someone in there teens would act like you did. Hell, I'm betting most of the teen members here on VS wouldn't handle it like you did.
