99 S80T6 Problems

Maybe someone on here can help. Working on a friends 99 S80 T6. I allready know it is a basket case from the start. The problem i am having is a hard starting issue. THe car will crank and crank and crank, no start. Put the gas pedal to the floor and it will crank and eventually start. The tach jumps all over the place while cranking. It is getting fuel, can smell it out the tail pipes after it starts. Once it starts it runs perfect and never misses a beat. No codes at all. Scanned many many times. Have replaced plugs swapped coils around, fuel filter, cam pos sensor, crank pos sensor on bellhousing. Has had the throttle body cleaning and software update. Fuel pressure is correct while running and not running, so it is not a bad fuel pump check valve. Makes boost like it is supposed to. Have read somewhere about some wiring that should be rerouted away from large power cables to starter or something like that. Some kind of electrical interference problem i guess. I cant find a good wiring diagram for the car. Any ideas or guidance for this bastard car that i told him not to buy in the first damn place? Told him 5 cylinder turbo volvo not the T6 and especially not the 99 model. But it is in good shape and drives great and only paid two grand for it.

I have a similar problem. Mine cranks and runs but skips...narrowed it down to Cyl 5. (T6 6cyl, 2K model) I have Good Vitals..120 PSI in all Cyls except 6 which has 125 psi. Good fuel delivery, I checked the injector and it is working also. While its running, I pulled the coil connectors 1 at a time. Each cylinder I pull the coil connect from effects the idle except cyl 5. my buddy who owns a shop said he had the same issue with a Honda...it would fire on all cyls except 1 cylinder...it skpped.. NO CODES as in my case I too have no Codes. They changed the Crank sensor and that fixed the problem. so I want to lean towards checking this and how might I discover WHY it doesn't fire on Cyl 5?.. Anyone have Resistance readings for a GOOD Crankshaft sensor and also the Cam position sensor? Thanks.. HOpe was a little helpful.. Has anyone else experienced this same symptom?

ha hahaa...U guys are funny as hell!!! Yes I have changed the spark plugs and I have 5 spare coils..I have checked the coil I'm using and it works fine...FI sprays fine...120 PSI compression... could the Crank sensor omit cyl 5 for some reason? the car has been sitting for almost a year...I have Resurrected it as well as this thread! and yes I did SEARCH 1st!!! LOL!

Did you check your grounds? There are 2 leads in the COP wiring harness which need to be attached to the head. One is near cyl 5 and the other is near cyl 2. Additionally, make sure you've got the head grounded - there are 2 ground straps from the engine to the chassis. 1 near each turbo.

Yep..made sure Of all that... Both Ground Straps are bolted to the head, Both Ground points are grounded exactly where you mentioned from the Coil wire group harness....I have Spark, Compression, and Fuel spray from #5 injector.... I wondered if maybe the exhaust cam and the Intake may be 1 tooth off, but the timing marks line up like "Laser sighting" dead on the money every time. I have never seen anything like this. No Codes I have tried 4 or 5 separate coils on this one Cylinder..swapped a known good coil from several other cylinders...But I always have spark..every coil works.. just seems that something is missing when its all in put to use...Either I'm not getting Fuel, or spark... I compression won't change unless something catastrophic happens...I haven't had time to mess with it in a few days due to Sh#tty weather...but it supposed to be in the 60's tomorrow... I 'll report back...
