Auburn T5
I followed Bing-O's headunit install about a year ago and installed an old kenwood MP3 player I had laying around. Well, yesterday installed my new one and am curious as to whether or not if I used the wiring harness adaptor if the factory amp is still being used? I saw what appeared to be something like a keyboard connector looking thing that wasn't hooked to anything. Was this the cable for the factory amp? If the amp is still being used with the way I have the headunit installed, what all would be involved with bypassing it? Or is bypassing it not advised? michael-s70
the only way you would be going through a factory amp is if you used that PS2 (keyboard )looking plug. if you are using the 2 big black block style plugs your just running straight to the speakers. if its not loud enough for you go with a pioneer premier HU. they are are badazz!!!!! Auburn T5
ha no they're plenty loud as is but I remember back with my RSX, you had to do some wiring trickery as the main plug harness behind the radio went to the amp then out to the speakers and re-amping the signal produced lots of hiss. Auburn T5
have you replaced the back door speakers or rear deck speakers?
michael-s70
rear deck yes, and rear doors no but they both are are fairly simple to replace
Auburn T5
what did you put in the rear deck? I've heard there are little to no real replacement options for the 8 inch drivers in the deck. I've got 8 inch subwoofers but fear they won't sound right. Is any modification needed as far as cutting or fabricating new brackets or what not to get 6X9's or 5X7'? I was actually considering this JL audio 8" middriver but don't know if it would fit or how the factory speaker on the rear deck is mounted up there. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_136ZR800CW/JL-Audio-ZR800-CW.html?tp=105 The last thing I want is to buy it and then have to dremel the hell out of the rear deck only for it to not fit at all and then not be able to go back and re-mount the stock speakers :/
Bah
what did you put in the rear deck? I've heard there are little to no real replacement options for the 8 inch drivers in the deck. Now in the 93 850GLT, its had pioneer 3 ways in the back for 5-6 years now...6x9s on the rear, 6.5s in the door. Smaller magnet, just reuse the stock mounting thing, yanked off the top grille, threw the speaker in, screwed it, put new grille ontop. Needless to say, it rattles like a mofo with the subs. I didn't install that my brother did so hah =p If you try to maintain the stock grilles...GL...that seems to be a challenge in the rear. Front not so much =0 And, pioneer rocks. Both cars got them, and always gotta love their OLED screens =) I'm waiting for when i can go out and buy the 600$ SPL subs and do some real ear damage boy can dream of stupid things right? Auburn T5
stupid question but how do you get the plastic grille off the rear deck to expose the speakers? I tried to pry with a flat prying tool but I got to the point where I was afraid I would crack the plastic on it. Do you have to release it from under the deck? (n)A-GAME
you don't. you have to pull the whole rear deck.
Auburn T5
Well that sucks.... any writeup's on how this is done or should i just look for various screws and start pulling them out until the rear deck lifts off?
(n)A-GAME
It's pretty easy, you need to fold down the seats, remove the side bolsters, and pull the deck forward. I took off my plastic C-pillar trim to make it easier, but not sure if you actually have to do that.
Auburn T5
hm.. I'm putting a JL audio 12W0 in the trunk this weekend so I'll see how everything sounds with it. May not need to change out the rear deck speakers just yet.
michael-s70
why do you think you need to switch out rear speakers??? if you tune your deck (if it is capable) using the HP (high Pass) filter you can tune the deep bass out so it doesnt hurt your speakers. and if youare puttin a sub in make sure you anchor the son of beotch down like a mofo since you are boosted
