Reeves Posted July 18, 2009 Report Share Posted July 18, 2009 Will a 1999 v70 xc 2.4T ETM work on a 1999 v70R 2.3T? When I called my Volvo dealership they show the same part number for the T8 engine. So mechanichly it looks like a match. My Volvo mechanic is unsure about the software compatability? He was explaining to me how Volvo downloads software to a specific vehicle and he was unsure if there would be a problem since there would already be possibly a different software on the ETM off of the xc. he has never did a swap with used parts like this before. the reason i ask is because I found an ETM on a wrecked 1999v70xc in the junk yard for $40. Reeves Posted July 21, 2009 Author Report Share Posted July 21, 2009 Ok, i found out the answer to my question. it is no. my service advisor at my local dealer asked the ace mechanic at thier location and he said that the ETMs are vin specific once they are on a car and software has been downloaded. and you can not take the info out or redo it once it has been on a car.
