r850glt
Any interchange that will give me higher amperage ? I have a 95 854 NA auto, aI think i read somewhere the S 80 or XC 90 might work ? Is this true ? What is the output on these alternators compared to stock 850. Planning on installing bigger amp for radio & red top battery also.
Bay13
The Volvo alternators that are 120 and 130 amp will not fit in the 850. The 100amp alternator sould work just fine for your stero set up. I'll move this to the audio section so they can chime in for pointers like caps to install to help out. JPigg34
Check www.fcpgroton for a rebuilt alternator. I don't see a need for a higher amp alternator. I'm running two amps and I have no problems. But lets see what Bing says about that.
prasamin
I really avoid using my radio with amp on when my car is off...i think that will drain the battery quickly no matter what, especially using a 1000 watt amp and all the neon lighting I have....I'm running on the stock alternator with a red top for my system, with no problems with dimming or anything....but I never use my radio with the car off ....well, anytime I don't really need to atleast! Hint, keep your neons off and as long as you're not thumpin your subs the only power you will be using is for those cool neon lights on your amp and your mids and highs. Chris_R
A higher amp alternator will allow you to run more gear while the car is runing and it will charge your battery a little faster, but that won't prevent it from dying any sooner. For extended car-off playing time you'll need a second battery and a battery isolator. -Chris
