Do You Rely On Modern Technology Too Much?

I'm not old, but I'm not young. When I was in high school, we shared a phone line with 5 other houses on our road, and that was in the late 80's-early 90's. No modern internet and only the rich had cell phones at that time.

So, you either talked to somebody over the phone or in person. Everything was understood.

I send a ton of texts, about 1k-2k a month, and I can take care of most of my business with my Treo, emails, pm's etc. BUT, if it's something important, I still call the person up or go see them.

I see people conducting large transactions (all over) without ever talking to the person on the other end. I think that's crazy.

I don't watch TV unless its college football, UFC or if im at someone elses house or the Doctors office.

I don't read the paper and I try to stay uninformed

I have a $10 virgin mobile phone which I would not have if I didn't have to have one for my profession.I send a decent amount of text messages but I also am very aware not to be to disconnected from the here and now.

The internet is really my only weakness :D

The topic of technology and mass information and its effect on both mental health and productivity is a very interesting topic ;)

I'd say I rely on technology but I wouldn't be lost without it. I have the most important phone numbers memorized in case I don't have me cell phone on me, and I don't use GPS or am not stuck to the tv or news on the tv. Also I can cook so if there is no microwave or toaster oven present I'll survive. I know enough to survive whatever experience I am having at a given point in time, but technology just makes things easier if not quicker, so if it's there I will take advantage of it.
