98 V70 Clutch

I'm checkin out a 98 V70 with a stick tomorrow and the seller tells me it will need a new clutch soon. Time will tell but meanwhile I was looking up clutch sets and they must be made out of platinum relative to the prices they are selling for! Dang! Cheap ones are $200 and it goes up drastically from there!! Was looking on FCP's site and they only list 93-97 850's and have nothing available for a 98 V70. Aren't they the same? And everyone always changes the pressure plate with the clutch, but is this always necessary? I remember back in the day changing out the clutch in my 67 Mustang with just a new disk and it was fine. I also remember how easy that process was with only 4 bolts holding the transmission to the bellhousing. How I wish this was so simple!

Keep in mind that there is a chassis break in '98 when they switched from single mass fly wheels to dual mass. I believe anything above 395002 for the V70 is dual mass, below is single. Clutch hardware, slave and master cylinders, no clutch fork, because the slave is integrated into the throwout bearing, etc etc.

ehh with the 98s you can swap to either if you want .

Well I ended up picking the car up for a whopping 850US. It needs a new radiator (cracked tank that pees under pressure so I just keep the expansion tank cover on loose) and the clutch definitely slips under hard load. Otherwise it will drive OK if you 'baby' it but it clearly needs some attention. These aren't adjustable are they? Cuz it shifts fine it just slips. As to the style, all I know is the production date is May 07 and the VIN is 401869. And yes the miles are high at 225k but it's in nice shape for the miles and age.
