European Headlight Assemblies

Recommended Posts

Finally installed yesterday the european assemblies that I got in late 2007....

While at it, replaced the headlight wiper motors too (that were not working since late 2007 too...)

Long story short.

Got these lights via ebay from a guy in the uk.

One lense was shattered in shipping and it took me a while to find an e-code replacement lense.

Finally got the lense and an adjustment motor late last year.

Started the project at the end of may during my free time.

To protect this investment and hard work, got some Xpel installed.

Here are some pics:

Results:

* The passenger side wiper motor seems a little loose so I'll have to take a second look (took out the headlight wiper fuse to stop any uncessary activity)

* The adjustment motors are not running. There is no power to the connectors in front. so adjustment is still manual. Probably need a software upload that may not be available in North America.

* The passenger side is way too high and the adjustment does not seem to work even if I tested it before instal.

Since I have to check the headlight wiper motor on that side, should notbe too much of a problem. Once you have taken out the bumper cover once, it's not that difficult to do it again.

Finally,

* Got a "bulb failure position light" message. The front marker light on the driver side is not working properly. Only flashes when turning.

I tested the signal sockets. The difference between the ecode and american lights is that the american socket has 3 pins and the ecode has only two.

On the passenger side, I have current as expected. On the driver side, one pin is not powered. The driver side socket was kind of finicky so I'll get a new one just in case (part 8662985).

I also noticed that there is also a small T10 light in the headlight (beside the H7 bulb) that is not working on the driver side. The same T10 light is working on the passenger side.

Could they be related?

I'll have to research this one further...

If you can shere some light on the last point, it would be greatly appreciated.

That's a gorgeous dog. Good luck sorting out the bugs.

Thanks

Got one bug fixed.

Number 30 fuse was blown. Replaced it and got blown right away.

Went to dealership to get a turn signal light socket,

replace the socket, fuse and lights are running ok now.

no more short circuit.

Now got to figure out how to power the headlight adjustment motors.

baby steps... baby steps.

  • 3 weeks later...

Installed my sharphid 35W / 5000K HID kit over the weekend.

Had to take off the bumper cover to pull the passenger side headlight assembly.

Too tight on that side to install the kit properly.

Driver side was a breeze.

Adjusted the beams at 3" lower than Std e-code adjustment (at 25') and it seems to do the trick.

Results are outstanding to say the least.

Adjusting motors would be a "nice to have" but not a necessity at the moment.

Other than that, A couple of random "bulb failure warning lights" but nothing major....

Observing the warning to determine if a 55W kit would be required...

so far, I'm not sure...

The 35W kit lights things up pretty good... the 55W may be blinding a little too much.

but then... a 55 W Low beam + 35W Fog light would definitely give a statement...

Wait, so you put standard LHD E-Spec lenses on UK-spec RHD headlamps? :arob:

Looks good cosmetically, but that must be totally wacky light output. The headlights are designed to reflect the light in a certain way - IE they work in tandem with the lenses that come standard on there. So, these are designed to reflect light left because they came from a RHD car. Any better pics of the light output at night? I'm really curious to see how this works.

I may be from up north in viking country but was not lost too long under the ice while I was a kid.....

These are LHD headlight assemblies/lenses.... part number validated with VADIS.

I'll take some pics over the weekend in cottage country between two sessions of beaver hunt & tree hugging.....

Here are some pics with the 5000K HID installed.<br /><br />If you take a look at the wall picture, you can see that adjustment to about 6&quot; bellow the usual e-code adjustment line<br />at 25'.  (I had it initially at 3&quot; bellow but was causing too much flash back from other drivers so I readjusted the beams accordingly)
