BlackT5-R
I have some terrible oem speakers. I want to improve the sound system just by replacing speakers. Any direct fit aftermarket speaker suggestions? Thanks!
Auburn T5
I just recently put some boston acoustic SR65's in the front door. More or less a direct swap. They come with universal mounting rings that you screw into the factory mount and then screw the speaker onto the mounting ring. I haven't gotten to the back doors yet but I am assuming they're the same. I'm not as interested in as high quality back there as I was in the front so I'll basically just shop for as near identical mounting depth as the SR65's have. cheapwagon
If I could threadjack a quick question in here... Did the 855R's have speakers in the rear pillars? I always thought I had speakers back there until I replaced my lift gate struts.
Platinum850Wagon
The SR65 is a 6.5" speaker right? Would the factory grills go back on without any problems?
Auburn T5
yeah they were a drop in replacement. I didn't have any clearance issues with the magnet or the tweeter. The tweeter assembly maybe only pokes out an inch at most.

Auburn T5
They went in the front doors the grill is part of the big door panel... the panel went back on without any issues so yes they fit under the stock grilles
Dave 54
But the OP has a 850, little different. Clearance is an issue, esp. in the rear doors. More than likely the tweeter will be touching the grill, which in turn may cause some vibrating of the grill. I currently have this issue from time to time with 6.5" in the rear doors, as when the bass hits it transfers right to the grill as they are in contact with one another.
