esnyder
I just spent an hour trying to figure out the best way to get into the cabin through the engine compartment. I dug around, pulled back carpet, got under the car, got bit by mosquitos, then cursed a little, then surrendered to the message board. What is the EASIEST way to get the power wire from the battery to the amp. Thanks, Ed
(n)A-GAME
For starters, the answer depends on which amp. If you're installing either a 4x40 or 4x50W OEM amp, you don't need to run any cables to the battery. I suspect this does not apply to you though. The best place to run through is down in the driver's side footwell, near the pedals. Look around, there should be a hole in the firewall down there. It might have a rubber grommet inside it, it might not, but that will be your best bet. Or, if you want the super easy (read:lazy) way out, just run the wires down through the front fenders and inside the car through the front door jamb. I wouldn't recommend doing it that way though. esnyder
No, this is a aftermarket amp. The only hole I saw with a rubber grommet is the hole for the hood release cable. They really do an amazing job of insulating these cars. Most cars I have owned you can find multiple spots to pass through the firewall. I dont want to try going through the spot with the release cable because it already looks tight, it has a couple of wires passing through with it in wire wrap. The only other thing I saw was right next to the steering assembly there is a spot that looks like it has been covered with a shinny piece of metal about the size of a quarter. I really dont want to drill anything. I figured I was going to install this thing in an hour or two. I guess there is no easy way to get through there. Maybe I am going to have to drill. Che'_Moderator
Dont know why I bother with writeups....... http://volvospeed.com/Mods/passenger_firewall_passthrough.html Or use the one shown here: http://volvospeed.com/Mods/boost_gauge.htm
esnyder
Found it thanks. That is really sweet that Volvo put that there. I thought it had wires running through it. Now that I could take my time and really get in there I see that it is exactly what I needed. I should of looked in the write ups, before trying the forums, sorry. I dont know why I didnt think it would be there.
