Problem Playing Mp3 Cds

MP3 cds played fine until about a week ago. Now when I try to play an MP3 cd, the unit says it is reading the format, displays this for about 5-6 seconds, then the screen goes blank, and then the same display message comes up.

The unit does this with several different MP3 cds, all of which worked just fine up until about a week ago. It plays regular cds fine, as well as CD-R cds from my computer, as long as they're not in MP3 format. I have always used Nero 6 to make my cds.

I do not have the manual for this head unit, and I checked the manual online, but could not find anything about troubleshooting this problem.

Is there a way to "reset" the unit? Or should I just disconnect the - battery terminal? Or is it worse, and I should start looking for a new radio?

Thanks.

P.S. I got this unit for free from a friend this summer who was upgrading to a more expensive unit. It is only about a year old. The shop that installed it is located back home in Massachusetts, so I will check with them too when I am home in a week.

There should be a manual available online at the pioneer site....there should be a reset button behind the face somewhere...hold it down for about 4 seconds to reset....the best thing to do first would be to get a cd player cleaner that can fit into the HU, and see if that works....lasers can get dirty and struggle to play certain formats, especially on CD-R's.....

another thing to try would be to try ripping all your MP3's to a constant bitrate on one cd, and see if that helps....usually 192kbps is a very good quality rip...if you can re-rip all those songs to 192, it may help, and go ahead and clean, then reset!
