Most of these cars are going to specialty salvage yards, where the interior parts, electronics, and/or exterior parts are removed, depending on condition of course. Whatever isn't being taken from the car is then crushed. The salvage industry is getting a nice boost from this program, otherwise ISRI wouldn't have signed on. Wouldn't the dealer trade be equal or in some cases even more than the clunkers program? I mean yes, a 95 Aurora with 240000 miles even in excellent condition is worth trade of 1175 on kbb.com, so from that stand point getting 4500 for it is worth it, if the consumer was planning on a new car. I wish this could go towards a late model used car. and that you didn't have to own the car for a full year. my 95 STS is worth about $1000 on trade at a dealer on a used car, or the 4500 on a new one. but i haven't owned it long enough, and can't afford the brand new car i'd want.
