I still find it funny that they do all this stuff and yet there is no guarantee that the dealerships will even get paid....

 I traded in my mom's 96 Oldsmobile Eighty-eight for a new Nissan Altima which is a hell of a lot better car. They offered me the clunker deal for my 850 and my T5, I told them go to hell on that one :P and FYI this isn't an Obama plan, I was offered cash for clunkers back in spring of 08, I bought the Altima in August so thank you Bush :P

its a sh*t program. wasting some beautiful clean cars. they done even salvage parts off of it. they jus crush it as is. another way the govt is getting people to buy new cars and specifically gm/ford/chryslers

That's not true. Most of these cars are going to specialty salvage yards, where the interior parts, electronics, and/or exterior parts are removed, depending on condition of course. Whatever isn't being taken from the car is then crushed. The salvage industry is getting a nice boost from this program, otherwise ISRI wouldn't have signed on.

id actually like to see the split between domestic and foreign cars that are being bought because of this program.

I don't understand why some nice cars are being turned in as clunkers... Wouldn't the dealer trade be equal or in some cases even more than the clunkers program? I mean yes, a 95 Aurora with 240000 miles even in excellent condition is worth trade of 1175 on kbb.com, so from that stand point getting 4500 for it is worth it, if the consumer was planning on a new car. I wish this could go towards a late model used car. and that you didn't have to own the car for a full year. my 95 STS is worth about $1000 on trade at a dealer on a used car, or the 4500 on a new one. but i haven't owned it long enough, and can't afford the brand new car i'd want. If i was able to clunker my STS, I'd ask if i could be the one to kill it, because the thing has pissed me off too much lately!

My 97 LPT doesn't qualify do the T-5's?

Combined MPG 19

Qualifies for CARS? No. Your trade-in must have a Combined MPG rating of 18 MPG or less to qualify.
