JCviggen
After being down nearly 3 months the car ran again yesterday. Needed to get it inspected this morning. Had to wait in line so turn it off and back on 2 or 3 times. Then it suddenly just wouldn't start anymore. It cranks happily but doesn't light, not even a stumble. It ran perfect and smooth when i turned it off minutes before. The weird thing is the rev counter jumps up when cranking and waves around between 1200 and 1500rpm on the scale! It is cranking normally so certainly nowhere near that but anyway it should read 0 regardless. The only thing noticable is that the fuel injection relay (gray with 4P connector on top of the fan) is making a loud constant rattle while the ignition is on (so not only while cranking). I had to leave the car in the parking lot there (getting tired of getting stranded in it truth be told) and will try to replace the relay later today but the fact that it is rattling (which a stuck relay would not do I imagine) is a little worrying. Could be a more hidden electrical bad contact or something? Couldn't check for spark, but there was probably no fuel as there was no fuel smell after repeated cranking. The fuel pump can be heard for approx. 1 second when turning the ignition on. I McGuyvered around a little while waiting for my ride and removed the 2 contacts that have a big red wire from the connector and jumped them by sticking in a 30A spare fuse. The car would not start like this, but it did stop the rev counter from moving when cranking. Frikkin weird...the car just doesn't want to drive anymore it seems :(
PsychoWagon
if that relay is pooched the car won't start. Check the wires going to that relay too, they like to rub off.
