Rubber Stoppers For Coil Springs

Recommended Posts

i have H&R springs in the front of my T5-R whilst leaving the rear springs stock cause i like the look of having it lower in the front. problem is i have 15mm spacers on the back so when i go over bumps, the rear springs are soft enough (have too much travel) to cause the rear wheels to go up into the wheel wells and rub the outer edges. i could easily put the H&Rs on the back, and though it would be lower, they're stiff enough to not travel enough to rub, but i like the look of the stock R springs in back! so i was wondering where i could get those rubber 'stoppers' that go in between the coils to prevent such travel? know what im talking about? pics, advice, experience with them, and where i can get them are what i need to know! thanks guys

Mine was doing the same thing. Your back springs are probably worn if your rubbing. FCP sells HD springs for wagons that I believe have the same spring rate as H and R's but wont lower your sedan. You might want to hack a half of a coil to 1 coil so the car is not sitting that far off level. I know what you mean about it looking better and actually pulling nicer when driven in a straight line (mine is bit higher in the back). And yes I believe they sell the rubbers your looking for also.

anybody have experience with the rubbers (lol) though? i did go to FCP and there's no pic of them? are they the type that coil around the coil, or are they the type that is basically just a 'wedge' on the upper coil of the spring? follow? i just want to know how they ride, longevity (dry rotting/collapsing issues, etc)

Are you referring to the spring spacers the factory puts in for transport protection that are removed at the dealership? If they're still doing that, check a dealership (I don't know what they would want to keep them for), though I've never seen them to know what they're like or whether they are sufficient for your needs. Just an idea.

I advise to not mix the springs rates like that. Car is going to understeer ever worse then normal like that.

Not to mention the increased rear track isn't going to be helping that problem at all..

hey guys, thanks for the responses/ideas.. Lucky, i was thinking more of like a rubber sleeve that basically wraps onto the coil (like a wire loom cover in an engine bay) that thickens the coil with tough rubber so it stops itself from compressing over lumps and bumps. and i def dont want to raise the car with a rubber donut. Fishy, i hear ya, i def feel like all the rigidity is up front cause all the back has is bilstein HDs whilst the front has a strut bar, H&Rs, iPd sway and HD endlinks, and new tie rod ends and control arms... so is the consensus that i should just put the H&Rs on back with an iPd rear sway and call it a day over superficial looks?
