bob850
This is in a 96 850 Turbo wagon. The car has a SC-816 in it that the previous owner had put in under warranty (he said the SC-815 had broke early on). So I added a used factory amp from a 96 platinum edition, and used the volvo factory harness to hook it up. I now notice a slightly more pronounced punch and mid-bass, which is nice. But that problem is that I now am also noticing a very slight popping sound on start-up (one pop) and when adjusting the volume (multiple pops as I turn the volume knob). Has anyone with a factory amp noticed this? Does anyone know what might cause this? Maybe it's just normal for the factory amp system. It definitely does not do it when the factory amp is not connected. Any thoughts would be appreciated, other than "go aftermarket".
bob850
Just a bit more info, the crackle is more noticeable on turn on and turn off (when I push power on/off on the head unit or when I turn the car on/off with the radio already selected to "on"). Also, at turn on/off the crackle first comes through the left channel, then the right channel. It's not a huge problem, but is noticable.
BEJinFBK
The volume knob on you HU may be going south. I'd try a quick shot of contact cleaner/lube.
bob850
The volume knob on you HU may be going south. I'd try a quick shot of contact cleaner/lube. Already tried that. I don't think it's dust/dirt because the crackle is extremelyl consistent in frequency as you turn the knob. It seems like it's happening due to a specific signal change being sent from the receiver. washdup
I get the same pop after I installed the behind-the-HU factory amp upgrade. I don't think you can get rid of the pop. A long time ago I added an EQ/amp to the HU in my 240Z that was on a separate switch and would always hear a pop when I switched it on/off, too, so I just accept the pop as letting me know the amp is working. The noise on adjusting the volume I don't get with my current setup.

You can only hear it when adjustint the volume at very low levels with the engine off. I just thought I would mention it in case it indicates a wiring or grounding problem.
