Synthetic Oil, Conventional Oil, Mixed Oil?

there isn't that much of a difference between quarts and liters....

but... I go with 6 QUARTS

I have wondered the same thing myself over time. My 95 T5-R has a B5234T5 engine and the 96 855T has a B5234T engine. The car manuals say 5.6Qt, but that some models may take 6.1 Qts. And the Haynes manual says 6.1 Qts, unless you drain the oil cooler, in which case it's plus 0.9 qts. I have used 5.6qts for both cars when changing oil&filter.

Anybody have a definitive reference on this?

Hello guys I just bought a 96 850R wagon last friday, I'm so damn Happy!!! :D

and this is the first time I'm going to change the oil, the previous owner told me that he had Valvoline Conventional oil running with it, interval change every 3000 miles, he only owned for a year though...

So I don't know what oil to use, people say Syntethic others say mixed......I'm confused on which one to use, she has 143,000 miles and it runs strong, the previous owner seemed to take care good care about this sleeper beauty.... I just want to give her the best :)

Thanks Guys

Seafoam the crank, rinse with throw-away 6 qts and cheap filter, auto-rx it, then switch to synthetic.

What you'll get is a quiet engine and it will take longer for your oil to darken.

Why do I recommend this? I have real world experience.

In my previous 855 with high mileage, oil darkens pretty quickly (and having dropped a couple of pans in these cars, I'm not surprised why, it's got labirynth in there!)

I was seafoaming that baby when I traded it for my current T5M and I swear it quited down quite a bit.

Fast forward to my T5M (a fixer when I got it). Seafomed the crank then rinsed it (a la flush), then I auto-rx'ed it. I'm now using Formula Shell 10W30 and I swear the oil is still pretty clear after almost 3k - clearer than the oil in my 98 NA with about the same mielage. I've been using M1 10w30 to our V70 NA since new, and I can tell you my engine on that car is very clean, which speaks volume how effective the cleaning process I did to my T5M is.

........

Do you have any real world experience with just adding a liter of ATF 200 miles before change? Or Seafoaming and not wasting, I mean rinsing, with 6L of additional oil

I did hear about the ATF, never tried it though, and I know I'll get it with tossing 6 qts of oil B). So I'm anal about it, bite me, lol. I got a good deal on Danica oil with free cheap filter - but I wouldn't run my car with said filter though.

It was a one time deal, and like I said, the payoff is well worth it. You should try it.

Lol, so you're paying attention. Leak no more, Che. At least not on the refurbed cooler lines :D.

That and the freebie rad (yeah, imagine me using a NA/AT rad from my parts car for my T5M! How does that work?)

Nothing scientific about this, maybe the darkening of oil is not that important in the quality of oil at all, for all I know.

But it's just an observation I made.

Rinsing after the seafoam is optional, folks. A little seafoam in the crank for 3k or so is not going to hurt your engine, but wasting 6 qts of oil is going to hurt mother earth really bad.

How's that, happy now :D.

Yeah I heard about seafoaming to the cars but I don't know how to do it, I've seen couple of youtube videos, they pour it into the fuel tank, and then in the engine...??

any tips and/or instructions on how to do it......to be honest with you I'm a little afraid, ha I don't how ma car would take it......

K, I don't want to scare you, and maybe it was coincidence, but when I did seafoam the intake of my previous 855 (btw, there are 3 ways to seafoam the car, in the intake, in the gas tank, and, the subject of our heated discussion :D, in the crank), I managed to kill my rear o2 sensor. It looked original though and maybe was on it's way out. Seeing that both o2 sensors on my T5M are newer and not wanting to shell out $150 for any of them, I actually removed them and plug the o2 bung when I seafoamed my T5M in the intake.

There is an instruction in Bay13 on how to seafoam the intake, just look it up.

The Seafoam bottle has insturction and quantity suggestion for each application as well.

About the crank, my whole thing is this, you'll never get all the oil out when you change the oil, and I'm not just comfortable knowing there are residual seafoam in my crank case, so I rinsed it out.

What Che is saying is that it's not necessary, and I do hear that seafoam is not that strong compared to other engine flush solutions. But it's my car, so I can do whatever I want with it :P.

And if you're not familiar with auto-rx, it calls for use of dino (non-synth oil) in the process, which is why I'm suggesting it now for you, because if I read it right, your car is using dino now. Good luck and enjoy your ride.

lol yup my car is using dino... so you are advicing to do an engine flush with seafom in order for me to go from dino to ... (synth oil), am I right?? which will keep my engine running cleaner for long, thats your point right??

It's actually the AutoRx, which is a very mild form of engine cleaner, that calls for dino oil. Google it to learn about it.

I did both, I seafomed the crank, rinsed it by changing the oil and idled it for a few minutes and then drained it again (this is optional and really up to you), then I put fresh dino oil, and added a bottle of autorx for next 3k, then do the 'rinse cycle' of running dino oil for another 3k (the last two steps is what you'll find AutoRx recommends) before I switched to synth. You don't have to do none of this, this is just a recommendation, and I'm telling you the result I got, which is why I'm recommending it. The pix below is my NA with ~125k at the time (140k now and stil liek this), it's super clean, right? But I tell you, my T5M which has signs of varnish under the oil cap filler, actually takes longer to darken the oil. What does that tell you?

Ha interesting... I'm gonna do that because probably the previous owners never did this to her...... and I think that she might like it specially with 140k of experience :)

Thanks guys for all your help :D

I'll keep you guys update it
