nyc1dxo
How long do these engine sub bushings last. I believe there's one at each corner. I just replaced the top engine mount as well as the passenger side mount. Boths jobs were done in my driveway. Both had tears and I am still not happy with the feel of engine vibration at idle. Any comments and suggestions will be appreciated. Is this a job for a shadetree mechanic? 2001 S80 2.9L
rbodor3
the sub frame bushings are more robust then the top mounts and much of the other rubber in the car, but the added stress from worn out bushings that were assisting in holding the engine could have caused premature wearing of your subframe bushings. I've also found that where you live can make a big difference. Miami, for instance, destroyed all the rubber on my vehicle by the previous owner. I've also read a lot of the northern guys that see a lot of road salt tear through rubber pretty similarly. Engine vibration at idle could also be do to transmission mount, which would be mounted under the engine. It will be towards the nose of the car, and has a large & small bushing. More often then not the small bushing is shot and possibly the large. You will want to buy a new one from the dealership, the whole bushing assembly is best & easiest to install. You remove a total of 3 bolts not including the drip pan and that's it. Subframe bushings I would highly discourage you do yourself. Dropping the subframe is required and is both dangerous and requires a decent amount of good shop equipment.
